Yes it can be. Only certain models are able to at this point. Check the link for more information. http://www.tvandnav2go.com/bmw-tv-navigation.html

Thats definetly the Heated Seat setting button. All the BMWs ordered for Canada come with heated seats, from what I understand, thats just an option in the US.

OK - a bit of thread drift here - but if someone that currenlty has iDrive could answer this I'd appreciate it. Can you set waypoints to a destination using the iDrive NAV?

I wont. Even though I have used the system in a few bimmers and I think its pretty neat. I have never had navi in any of the cars I drive and I do fine without it. I'll be ordering mine with close to zero comforts. I want barebones. Hopefully the money saved will afford me to install some suspension goodies, and new wheels/tires, maybe BBS but preferably HRE's.

If everything works out in favor of me being able to buy one of these (I'll hopefully be buying a house around late next year) I'll also be ordering mine without. I've conversed with a few people about i-drive and they've all seemed to like it very much so, but I would rather get an aftermarket navi and keep my financing to a minimum.

Still looking for an answer to the question - Can the iDrive be programmed with waypoints?

+1 to that.

I don't even like the automatic climate control in my Audi. There is no way I am going to put HAL9000 like controls in my 135i. I am buying this car to drive and I want as little interference with that as possible.

Since this car will not be our long distance trip vehicle, I will say no to nav. I am also going for the sunroof/moonroof delete if it is available. I plan on tracking this car and want to shed some of the weight, so I would rather not pay for stuff that I will eventually have to remove.

I voted yes a few weeks ago, but I changed my mind after today. I voted yes wanting a better ipod integration. I got the chance to drive a 335i coupe and convertible today for the Komen Ultimate Drive. Both cars had Sirius and the scroll controls were super easy to use, and the screen displayed more information than I expected. I also test drove a 750iL with standard i-Drive. The i-drive system was rubbish. I'm sure I could get used to it, but I would prefer to spend the $2000 elsewhere on the car. Here is a picture of the new radio. The left knob is the volume control, and the right knob is for scrolling through the Sirius channels or your iPod library.

Agreed. If it is not an option we may be able to order the european tray part and replace the ashtray ourselves.

idrive/bmw/nav noob

those of you talking about aftermarket navigation systems, do they have to operate on an additional/external screen? ie. the super-invasive tacky looking XM modules that arent integrated with the stereo

is idrive the only functionality associated with the LCD displays?

if you do have idrive, do you have to use it to do everything? ie, you want to turn up/down the volume.. i dont see volume buttons, but there are HVAC buttons?? i though climate was part of idrive. sorry, just trying to get an idea of what it handles without a complete breakdown

I got to play with iDrive for the first time on a 7 series yesterday so take this for what it's worth. Pretty much everything on the 7 required you to use the idrive controller or voice commands. I was able to turn up the radio volume with the steering wheel controls.

From the picture you attached I'm not sure what the idrive would really control on the 1 series. The HVAC unit is right below the center vents. The radio is right below that and from what I can tell, the volume knob is on the left hand side next to the cd player. It looks like there are 6 buttons for radio presets right below that, and I think the idrive DVD slot is on the bottom.
