CAUTION: Disturbing pictures...

So, I crashed my 2 and a half month old e90 last Saturday... I wasn't going to post pictures until after the insurance let me know what was going on, but they've been really slow to get back to me and I got my e90post sticker in the mail today... guess I won't have anywhere to put the sticker for now.

So here's the story, since I know if I just post pix, I'll get a dozen replies asking what happened:
Late Friday night/Sat morning, I was driving up to my friends house in Sac. On the way to his house there's this messed up, winding road. It was really dark outside, I'd never been there before, and it was raining (probably the first rain of the season). I pulled away from a stop sign and entered a turn going only about 35mph... I under-estimated the severity of the turn and the tires just completely lost grip on the rain-slicked road. I suppose the leaves littered all about didn't help either. Anyway, I lost control, slid into a telephone pole (which probably did most of the damage) and ended up in a ditch. All the airbags went off, because the pole smashed in the passenger-side a-pillar. The only injury was from the steering-wheel airbag deploying while my hands were still on the wheel. I just got a little scratch. I didn't even get jolted forward enough to hit the airbag --that's how slow the crash was. It just looks really bad in the pictures because the front door basically got peeled back by the pole. There's actually no damage to the rear door at all. It looks like the impact point was right between the front fender and front door on the a-pillar. No idea if it's totalled (high probability it is due to the a-pillar being destroyed), but I'm still waiting to hear from insurance.

The good things that came out of this --BMW roadside assistance is AWESOME, really really first rate service. And my insurance (Geico) was really quick about getting all the information I needed --they've ust been slow with the adjuster. So far I haven't had to pay for anything. It's all been taken care of. This has been a crappy year for me and cars --I've been driving for almost 8 years, and this is my first real accident. I also blew the same motor twice and bent a control arm by curbing my right front tire (in my old camry, that's why I bought the e90), in this year --no other problems before this year. What happened? Am I getting too old to drive? Hahah. Anyway, on to the pictures... Not for the faint of heart...

I'm not an adjuster but I'd guess totalled. I would pray for totalled because I would never want that car back - it would never be "right".

Oh my God! I'm just glad to hear you're ok. Yikes! Those pics are kind of disturbing! But I guess s*it happens and BMW knows it, and that's why you walked away with only scratches from the airbag. That's a real bummer though, I feel for ya.

Yeah leaves on the ground plus bad weather can make driving a real bitch. It sucks about your car, but be glad BMWs are as safe as they are and you're ok. Just keep your head up. Life pulls a fast one on everybody every now and then. If it's not a car accident, it's something equally emotionally distressing. Good luck!

Whoa man, too bad! Glad you're okay.

Selling the wheels?

Just kidding.

Would adaptive headlights have helped do you think?

I hope it's totalled too, I think a new one would be better.

I guess any good drive is one you can walk away from

As for the adjustment, I don't think you need to worry about getting a new car. Honestly, a little touch-up paint and nobody will ever know... really! I mean it.

Or, if they do go the other way, look on the bright side: How many people in your neighbourhood get a new bimmer every couple of months? You're doing pretty well if you ask me

Glad that you're okay. Curious though, did you feel the traction controls kick into action?

Wow, that looks worse than what you'd expect from a crash entering a curve at 35mph... the pic of the dash cracked/busted is particularly painful.

Glad you're okay.

A question about insurance--- will they pay for a new e90 to match this one? does the deductable change from a minor wreck? im just not familiar with this magnitude of crash. I would assume if you total and its your fault you would have to go buy a new one out of your own pocket. oh and about the traction control, did they do anything?

Nah, that definitely can't be right, unless you don't have full coverage on the car. If your car belongs to the bank, then you have to have full coverage. My sister totalled her Eclipse and she pulled out into traffic and the insurance company gave her around $15,000...not bad, it was a 1999 Eclipse with like 40,000 miles (this was in 2003).

My great aunt just totalled her 2003 Cavalier a few months ago and she too pulled out into traffic and got $8,000 from the insurance. I think if you have full coverage, you won't have a problem. There is that "gap" insurance thingie, though, which I'm not too familiar with.

The only out of pocket expense should be the deductible and your new insurance premium.
