I can't change jobs!

As I mentioned earlier, was initially think Golf GTI. But think this looks way better. Don't like the AWD in the R - takes away the handling component and I try not to be an idiot in the wet to need the grip. At this stage in my life I don't need 4 days or 4 people - might as well enjoy!

I reckon after a while you'd start personalizing and modding the Golf and you'll be back in a similar situation. But if daily running costs are lower then I guess that's a good thing.
It's a great problem to have!

You definitely made the right choice. The 135i is a much better car in almost every respect. Best car under a $100K I'd say - probably $120K.

Don't want to personalize the car, just want a pretty and fun car out of the box that doesn't look expensive.

I stayed up reading on vwwatercooled last night on ownership experiences - for obvious reasons not many people have them yet. But all the owners seem really happy.

Ride quality, poor rear visibility and no boot latch seem to be the only concerns so far. The first two are subjective so we'll see.

I have test drive planned today - not sure if I can make it die to work but if I do - will post up thoughts.

Another consideration is a ute or 4wd ute so you can avoid the Fringe Benefits Tax and write off all expenses through your company, FBT is a pain

I really like the Scirocco (a lot) but have you considered any of the Lexus IS range? Maybe IS250 or IS350. Just putting it out there.

Was actually thinking about this also. But they don't excite me at all. I love that the 1M is that after a tough day - and I have more than a few of them - it reminds me why we do this and why we put up with all the crap on a daily basis. Makes it all worth!

Lexus has a huge following in Darwin. It's probably considered more premium than a BMW. Funny, I know!

Dr.BMW, as below mate - I will slit my wrists in no time!

Haha, AWD-ish indeed! I do like that car Alpine! I've never been a fan of big cars though and it's way more $$$.

My mother has one on order - so looking forward to seeing it in the flesh properly soon.

I get that the corrolla comment was a jok, but I cant see why the Lexus comment wasn't also a joke.

I looked at a couple of Lexus (Lexii?) when I replaced my last two cars.
I considered an RX350 to replace my Kluger Grande and the IS250 Convertible before I bought the Z4.

The RX350 was almost identical inside to the Kluger. Same buttons, same sat nav screen, only the leather was a bit better quality. I couldn't see it being worth 30K more than the Kluger so I walked away before even driving it. (I drove a RX330 when I was buying the Kluger and it drove like a cow - as did the Kluger - so I cant see it gettign any better in the RX350).

Sitting in the is250 Convertible I saw so much of the same generic toyota DNA. AGain, I Walked away before even turning the key in anger.
When Lexus was launched it was all bespoke gear and high quality.
Now LExus has moved down to take toyota parts whereever possible and toyota has stepped up to add Lexus luxury features. The divide between the two is now quite small in my opinion.

But on topic... The Sirrocco is good looking and a car that comes close to BMW quality. In germany they are priced almost identically to the 1 series range. Here BMW just gouges us for 10-20 K extra for the same car.
If I wanted value for money and a good drive I would buy the VW every time.
I buy the BMW because I want the best drive and luxury toys without having to buy something exotic.

FYI some stats about the R,

Stock R - 5.9,
+Viezu tune - 4.7 (other tunes but be slower),
+DP, CAI - 4.1

Considering you can pick a used R easily below $50k makes it great value for money.
Little off topic but I had to say the HPFP made the biggest difference of any mod I did to my S3, which has the same engine as the R.

I think the Sirocco is pretty nice looking and definitely eye catching. Seen a couple on the road and they stand out a lot more than other VWs.

ok ok, alik this sounds like it may be what you are after, price aside.

Subtle colour

Discreet

Great condition

It's a Ford, not pretentious

So what do you think?

Just checked out VW website.
Sirrocco R is FWD.
I'd pass.

(I had a 190kw / 380 Nm Mazda 3. It was like riding a motorbike in the rain. Never again)

It's the main reason why it weighs 125kg less than the Golf R

Exactly why I wanted a golf R 2 door instead of a scirocco. Had a mkV GTI, was a beautiful car, but I hated the wheelspin and Tq steer. Anyway the sciroco is aril nice alik, choices are limited I'm afraid.

Oh wait, what about a Megane cup? I rate them.

^ lol The M Coupe is such a stand out car when you roll up in one. Def not going to fly under the radar any more then his 1M is.

Scirocco look amazing and would be a fun little car and not too badly priced.
