Yeah, I hear ya. I'm like everybody else who bought this car for it's performance, not it's gas mileage. I figured I would get around 17-18 around town and that was fine with me. 14.8 and less came as s a bit of a shock, but I'd still buy this car again everyday and twice on Sunday. I'm just curious to see if I can improve my mileage and by how much. The car is so refined and the HK system so nice to listen too, relax cruise mode can be very enjoyable as well.

24.5 mpg combined (25% city/75% hwy). i shift between 2700 and 3500 rpm, cruise at 2100 - 2500 rpm, and take occasional runs to 6000 rpm when the engine is fully warmed. i use 93 octane only, usually sunoco.

I think the 93 octane plays a significant factor. We can only get 92 here in Hawaii.

Unlike my other Bimmers which improved by about 3~5% by 10K, I didn't notice much difference in my 128i. But, IIRC, that was about the time when every station in the area went to E10 which has about 3% less energy than pure gas. So you can probably look forward to a marginal increase in mpg. But as others have posted, driving style is much more important. Tom |

I can't complain about MPG. I just did a 100 mile highway stretch getting 29 MPG on crappy 91 octane. A/C off helps a little, tire pressure matters. Of course, keeping it under 80 helps as well.

For my 2010 135i 6-sp manual with 8000+ miles, the overall average has been consistently 23 mpg. That's 95% urban/suburban driving; on the three or four 300-mile Interstate trips I've taken, the average has been 25-26 mpg, running around 3k rpm.

3rd tank of gas down and averaged 21.2 mpg with mixed driving. Next tank or two and I will be through the break in period and probably see a serious decrease for a little while.

Yeah I'm averaging 21.3 mpg - 16,650 miles - 44 mile roundtrip commute 5 days a week
Mostly back windy roads with stop signs and a few traffic lights - no highway travel unless on weekends (barely) - I always try to stick to windy scenic back roads I fill up my tank about once every 5 days consistently |

17.5-22 depending on what map on the JB4 I'm on and what fuel is in the tank. Pure 91 octane vs. 50/50 91 octane/E85
