Smoking n54

just recently, my car has been smoking tons of burning oil. When i pop the hood and start it, the front turbo is the only one that is smoking. also when i am at 2500 rpms i hear a loud rattling noise ( can't be the wastegate because i just got it fixed). i'm thinking either the turbo seals are bad or the valve stem seals are bad. let me know what you think. thanks

Think you probably nailed it with turbo seals. Having said that I'd be pretty worried about a loud rattling from the turbo, to me that indicates that the turbo is done. Have you taken the intake off and seen if/what kind of shaft play you have/ what other damage is int there? (I know its pretty hard to get to the turbo from the top and dropping sub frames always sucks, but you're gonna need to do that anyway).

On the bright side, sounds like it could be time for some larger turbos

the funny thing is that my motor blew up a month ago and last week was the first time i got to drive it with the new motor. while the motor was out i fixed the wastegate rattle and inspected the turbos. they seemed to be in good condition, but apparently not. what are some very reliable aftermarket turbos that don't break the bank (1000-1500$)?

Ummmm.... I don't know of any quality turbos that are going to cost any where in that range. (unless you only mean one single turbo). Youre going to be looking at a minimum of 2500 for new turbos.

Pures are close to that price (I've seen them on their website for as low as 2600ish), as are RB's. Or just another set of stockers. Keep in mind this does not include install, or the extra fueling, or tuning. Don't know if you do that yourself.

rominum how do you like the turbos, what's your setup, fueling etc? I'm weighing OEM replacements vs. stage 1s or similar now
