We have 17x8.5" et40 wheels arriving in May. We won't make a 1 series specific 17" wheel unless we get a lot of interest as the offsets are so odd. But it's a possibility. The questions would be if it's a staggered or square setup. With a fender roll you can get 245/40 to fit in the rear on that sized wheel, and with a more aggressive roll even 255/40/17 fits all around (front just needs camber).

The next 18" batch of wheels is set to come in the first or second week of June now. We'll open up the groupbuy soon, but will be closing it around the 10th of May.

Hi all,

For your info, I tested the Toyo 888 265/35/18 on the rear with APEX wheels and it rubs on the inside.
Note: my car is almost 2" lower, and camber is -2° on the rear wheels.

Cheers.

I have 275's on with this same lowered and camber settings.

They do slightly hit on the inside when bolting them on, but that is because of how the rear suspension articulates when the car is up off the ground. Bolt the wheel on and lower the car, and you'll have plenty of room.

As Larry pointed out, the tire touches the inside on full droop because of the high positive camber swing the rear suspension goes through as it drops. snug the wheel on, lower it, and torque it down, you'll see that the wheel will no longer have an inside rubbing issue in the usable range of the suspension travel.

Hi, that's what I did but I think these tyres are much wider than what's written on side walls. So it was for others to know about that, in case some were considering these tyres. I will use a 3mm spacer, it should provide enough room. With Michelin Pilot Sport Cup (265/35), no issue, though.

Cheers.

Weird, the Toyo 888 in 265/35/18 is supposed to be 10.8" wide. My 275/35/18 Dunlop Z1 Star Specs are supposed to be 11" wide, but I measured 11.6" with a makeshift caliper, when mounted up.

Really surprised that you needed a spacer of any kind.

What is your toe spec? If you have too much toe-in you may have interference issues. Additionally, I believe the point of contact is below the centerline of the wheel, so insufficient negative camber could be a problem as well. How much are you lowered and what are the alignment specs?

I have Nitto NT-01 275/35/18 R-compound tires in the back with no rubbing issues once the suspension is loaded. There was contact initially while up in the air, but there's at least a finger width once the car was dropped to the ground. I can't imagine that the Nitto R-Comps are any narrower than the Toyo 888s.

Looking at the pictures, those R888's are definitely narrower then a 275/35 NT-01. They don't balloon the way the NT-01's do.

You definitely need to check your other settings, as those tires can work for sure.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your advices. I don't know about the toe, and that's true it has to be verified.
I recently had the M3 arms mounted and we did not have time to do a precise wheels alignment. Same day, I tried to put the wheels on the car, so incorrect alignment might be the problem and my mistake, indeed.
We will do that next week, and I will let you know if I still have the issue after the alignment and what are the final values.

Thanks again!

Bradford, Larryn, NTTY - you are all little sissy's and run Toyota Prius sized rubber. j/k

265/35/18 FRONT + 285/35/18 REAR - STOCK FENDERS!

Yep, you read that right Berk Technology, APEX Wheels, Velocity Motorcars, and Hankook Tire have successfully fit a 265/35/18 tire up front and a 285/35/18 tire out back on our Time Attack 135i! It not only looks bad ass, but provides some serious grip!

APEX ARC-8 Wheels: 18x9"+42 front, 18x9.5"+62 rear

Hankook Ventus RS-3 Tires: 265/35/18 front, 285/35/18 rear

Velocity Motorcars Wheel Spacers: 10mm front, 5mm rear.

Rolled Fenders: Yes. And modified front fender tab.

Negative Camber: KW Variant 3 coilovers w/Vorshlag camber plates + Velocity Motorcars rear camber/toe arms.

Now this setup is not for everyone as you must run a lot of negative camber (-2.5 degrees or more) to get by without rubbing, however this is an excellent setup for the track warrior!

This setup was track tested by Berk Technology this past weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and we had zero rubbing or clearance issues! Photos of the setup...

I knew 285s would fit in back, but 265's up front???? Dear Lord.

Me thinks your next few Time Attacks might be favorable.

I thought you might be able to get 265s on front... 255s fit (on 18x9 wheel) without rolling the fenders. I might have to try this out once I burn through this set of tires.

Hi guys, here we go:
- 3mm spacers rear
- camber -2.5° rear and -2° front
- Toyo 888 GG (225/40/18 and 265/35/18). They are really wide.

Cheers.

Indeed, that's why we had to go for 3mm spacers. That tyre size was supposed to be ok, but it seems they are wider than other tyres.
Then, with the spacers in place, it was rubbing a little on the outside of the rear fenders (close to the bumper), on heavy loads. So we had to pull on them a little and now it's ok.
Note that the car is 2" lower.

Cheers
