135i gone Porsche 996 turbo here
Hey guys I'm out of the Bmw world for a while. Bought a '03 996 twin turbo a few weeks ago. Been wanting one for 10 years and finally got it...love it! 37k miles and a full 4yr 60k mile warranty. Any way I have a few things for sale.
Cobb AP Kerscher carbon fiber lip Stock chrome kidney grills Premium floor mats that are still in the box. Let me know if there's any interest. |

Yeah I have some pics somewhere. Haven't had much time to deal with selling this stuff so that's why I haven't put it in the official for sale section yet. I'd really prefer not to ship but will if I can find the right sized boxes.

How does it compare to the 135i?
Thanks. Karl.

Depends what you're looking for...this is based on my thoughts/opinions and living in Colorado. Note my daily driver is a '00 Audi S4 so I only drive the 911 on weekends. Please don't get me wrong I still love the 135i and n54 engine. Here's a quick list.
135i Pros: Engine capability is badass Only somewhat impractical Larger trunk space Can actually fit a normal size adult in the back seat Thick steering wheel A few more creature comforts Mods are way more affordable Willing to drive it in the winter with snow tires Cons: Takes FBO+meth to barely keep up with a stock 996 turbo. Open e-diff Short wheelbase Limited on tire size Turbos are a major process to swap 911 turbo Pros: Engine is more badass Torque galore Fast as $hit top speed 190 from the factory Handles extremely well Interior is ergonomically perfect...no unnecessary crap. I'm surprised it has power/heated seats AWD 20%f/80%r I believe A 295 tire barely fits on the 11" rear wheel. Could go 315 no problem. Stock does 11.9 @ 119 or so. With a tune only...picks up 80-100hp and torque and is capable of low 11's @ 125+ Can go on and on Cons: Very impractical No trunk space No features really - except the built in electronic boost gauge and I can raise and lower the rear wing with the push of a button. Can barely fit a child in the back seat Interior is very plain...steering wheel is super basic but see pic of an available upgrade along with pedals Expensive to maintain...reason why I got a warranty, although I heard they rarely have problems. Its a 911 do I care about the cons? Absolutely freakin not Or the adjustable gas pedal option |

How's the maintenance on the 996 turbo's? Just as expensive as other P cars?

Supposedly the general maintenance on the 996 is minimal. Oil changes 5-10k miles. I've heard the water pump may go out but its easy enough to replace in my garage. As far as replacing a blown engine or transmission...that's why I got a very good aftermarket warranty.
Not sure about other P-Cars but from '87-'00 my parents had a Guards Red "grey" market '80 factory widebody 911sc with dual triple carb stacks/bosch mechanical fuel injected flat 6. Now that thing was a money pit, A/C never worked and probably one of the stiffest clutches ever but it was damn fast and sweet sounding with the B&B exhaust. I asked my parents if it was worth the trouble and they said yes it was completely worth it. |

996 turbos are extremely reliable. The engine is the same as the GT1 Lemans cars...pretty much bulletproof. Detuned by the factory to 420 HP, a flash will gain 100 hp/tq on a stock car. Want to go extreme? 750 hp is possible on a stock engine with supporting mods (tuning, turbos, intake, ICs, fuel pump, injectors, exhaust, clutch). Beyond extreme? I have a friend with a 3.8 resleeve who boasts 1200+ HP. Me? I'm fine with 550 HP on mine. For now anyway....
Enjoy your 996 Turbo. Great choice in a supercar. I believe it is the best performing car for the money that's still enjoyable as a daily driver in any weather. Congrats! |

Ironically I did just the opposite and went from a 996tt to a 135i
I have some new ATE rotors, pagid yellow pads and some front and rear brake ducts floating around the garage (that and some filters and washers for a couple oil changes) if you might be interested. Enjoy the car - was fun for me
