as for changed driving style, i think i will follow the same old method of stomp on gas, stomp on brakes, stomp on gas, stomp of brakes..........
See that's where you're going wrong. You're forgetting all about the steering wheel!

M135i & M235i are for non car enthusiast who wants an M badge.

1M, M3/M4 are for car enthusiast who wants the M experience.

Nothing wrong with multiple lines of product targeting different groups of customers.

I don't feel that the M badge is diluted in anyway. An M car still drives like an M car and giving the driver all the thrills is all it matters.

Had two days in an Audi R8 (V8) couldn't wait to get back into my 135i/Cayman S. AWD is like the kiss of death for a performance car. A well kept secondhand Cayman/Boxter S with a few tasteful mods is the way to go. Sorry off topic.

So lets say I take an i-series car and retrofit every single M component onto it from the M version (ala 135 / 1M), what would that make the car?

Tii? FrankensteiM?

Buy a 2nd hand M3..some E92 M3s are selling around the price of a new M135i.

Or get E46 M3s...

Before buying my 135i, I spent 4 months looking for a relatively unmolested, low mileage E46 M3 in Sydney (6sp). None to be had for love or money.

so considering a 1m is a 135 with m3 running gear, why not save yourself some cash and get a 135 and spend 10k on upgrades after all thats what bmw did but they stuck a 40k M sticker on it. And lets not forget all the 1mers here have pretty much 'upgraded' all the standard n54 performance mods

You can't be more wrong than this.

There are more enthusiasts in this forum alone who do not own M cars than there are M owners.

Owning an M car does not make us car enthusiasts per se.

That was another thing. The later ones were fixed, but earlier models were recalled from what I was told... Except not everyone bothered to take them back for BMW to do the inspections/rectification work!

I found 1 diamond in the rough so to speak in 4 months. But at the end a PPI showed some issues so I turned my attention to the 135.

This has to be the worst financial decision I have heard for a while...

1. 1M is not a 135i with M3 gears and do the maths to see how much money you have to folk out for the 135 I to look and drive like a 1M

2. Resale...how do you recoup all the mods money when the car is up for sale

Well there are not many M cars around compared to non M car, isn't it?

Also what I stated is from a marketing point of view to create product niche.

Of course everyone knows there are performance oriented owners out there apart from the M owners.

What do I know I am not an enthusiast

Ya think? There's only 3 RSs left on carsales (there were 6 or 7 at one point), the ones that have sold seemed to not drop at all over the past months (I have been watching for about the past year). They are +$250k, the GT3s are coming down however.

100% CORRECT A bloke with a tricked up 135 is a real enthusiasts.
A chap in an M car is not, mostly it is stock and they will never mod or change anything as they think it is perfect as it is, and paranoid about WARRANTY.

There is the exception thank god.
