Min/Max Tire Size for Style 264's

Anyone got any idea what the min/max tire size I can mount on a style 264 rear rim? stock suspension

stock was 245/35/18?

will 255s fit? what sidewall % should I look for? how about 235s? 240s? I have no idea

255s will easily fit, there is really no "240" series tire they all go by "XX5" dimensions such as 205, 215, 225, 235 etc.

okay, good to know, so 255's will fit, that's actually what I have mounted right now. But how about sidewalls? I got 255/35s right now, would 255/40s fit? 255/45s etc?

How about 265s? Or 235s?

You wouldn't want to go 255/40. That is a taller tire than stock. 255/45 is even taller. You could probably pinch a 265/35 on there if you had someone skilled on the tire mounting machine. Lots of AutoX guys try to squeeze really wide rubber on stockers.

ah, ok I think it's all starting to make sense now, so it's just more a matter of the guy with the mounting machine more than anything. I think I was thrown off by the fact that they are all 18" tires, so the outside should be an 18". And if you have higher sidewalls, then that of course means the rim must be smaller to fit into the circle.

18" wheels fit a tire with a specific INNER diameter (18") however the OUTER diameter can vary based on the tire width (the first number in the tire size specification eg. 245) and the tires aspect ratio (the second number in the size eg. 40). The aspect ratio is a % of the tire width which equals the sidewall height. If you take 245 * .4 = 98mm * .0395(mm to inch conversion) = 3.871 * 2(because you have to account for 2 sidewall heights in a diameter) = 7.742 + 18(base diameter of the wheel) = 25.742" rolling diameter. Deviate from this diameter too far and you will have an inaccurate speedo and some people claim potential brake system failure.
