It's better(like every car made) than my M5 was, so I'm not that concerned. Fun driving/fast transport>fuel economy to me.

Interestingly enough I think my SS headers bumped my fuel efficiency up. I drive harder with them and get better MPG than before.

Anyone found that the freezing temps have a noticable effect on their economy. I expected some (warming up ontop of traffic) but im talking 100 less kms per tank now that its proper winter.

Comments, thoughts?

The car will use more fuel when warming up the catalytic converters, it's normal for any vehicle to use more fuel when it's cooler out.

Ya I expected the decrease but not to that degree in comparison to other cars I've owned.

Hit -38 this week in Ottawa (-36F) and she is guzzling the gas.

It could also be the winter blend fuels, as they yield less mileage.

For what it's worth,

Friends of mine who's cars run on premium fuel only buy Shell Gas. They say they get better mileage & runs better.

Yeah mine dropped about 2 MPG with the winter blend. Same happened in the RX as well. Yet another reason I cant wait for spring :-)

I average around 23.x mpg in 09 128i Sport/Manual with mostly highway driving for long commute. Best I've seen is around 27 with all highway droning. I wish it was better, but I like the car enough to not care too much.

Found the gas milage solution lol

Just wanted to bring this full circle and let everyone know I found a solution to my fuel Economy haha. Just picked this up a few days ago. In the states we had the 318ti hatch but in Europe they also has a 1.6 liter 316ti. Exactly the same just a bit smaller engine and still has just as much get up and go as the 318. Only been driving it around town and no highway yet but already have gone twice the distance on a quarter tank that I could in the 1. Now THIS is efficiency dynamics BMW lol. Again didn't mean to sound like I was bitching about the 1s mpg I know it's made for performance and is thirsty and that's fine. But I think mines a bit worse as I only do short trips and hardly ever highway cuz I live so close to work and gas here is outrageous with the conversion rate. Also I can park this anywhere and not care. People here will hit bump and scratch your car and not think twice. I'd be sick if my 1er was a victim.

I get as high as 32 mpg doing highway driving, and around 25-27 with mixed commuting primarily on 35-45 mph roads with stoplights. Mine is a 135 convertible with mt.

It's all about how you respect physics.

Just to add a data point, tracked my mileage on a 60 mile round trip commute yesterday. My car is a 135is 6MT convertible, AC was not in use, top was down for return trip, route is 65% highway with modestly rolling country two-lane roads for the rest. Averaged 30.1 while setting cruise at 70 or so on the highway. Was modest on the throttle, but not babying it.

Overall, quite pleased to know that on interstate drives, reasonable fuel economy is possible, especially for the "is" model with the extra weight and drag of a vert with only 650 miles.

Note, with city driving and some sportier driving last night, tank average is down to 25 today. Overall, I'm expecting 22-24 for mixed driving once I can finally hammer the car after break-in is complete.

I've been getting 18.9 since 10/15/12 when I started tracking it. That's 70/30 city/highway mix.
