Mini Johannesburg meet - Factory Tour PLANT 9
Well, today me, thrill30 and E90Fleet went with the BMW Car Club Geauteng to the Rosslyn Plant. It was quite an exciting experience. We saw the three main sections - Body shop (Body in White) - Paint Shop and assembly.
The factory is currently producing 250 cars a day. Around 80% are exported to other countries! Here are a few pictures of our mini meet - and one or two shots we snapped of the VPC I'm sure thrill30 and E90Fleet will add to this thread :-) It was great to meet you guys!! |

Broken1, I see that I need to come to you for lessons on how to look after the Black Sapphire paint.... our cars are the same colour but yours has a nice shine while mine is a little dull in comparison  ...
Great job you are doing there... and keep up the good work .... my laziness has finally been exposed .

Thanks a ton :-)
Believe it or not, my polishing waxing shedule really isn't so time consuming or expensive. Every 2nd week after my car wash on sat afternoon - a park it in the shade - apply either the BMW Polish, or the Titanium Finish Poilish with mutton cloth...let it dry for about 5 minutes (I START to clean my seats in this time) then buff it in with a hand buffer I bought from macro (for R250) and then buff off the residue with a microfibre towel :P It takes no longer than 30 mins to do the bonnet, front fenders, rear fenders and boot. I don't do the doors often, I've done them once since I got the car - and plan to do them once again in 2 to 3 months. Sometimes, when I am busy (which is often) I only get to polish my car once a month... The great shineyness was because I polished it yesterday...late at night (hence the residue that hadn't been correctly rubbed off - could see so well in the dark) Thanks for the compliment though!!! :Cool!: Your car really didn't look that bad though, not bad at all! I'm sure a once over with the BMW Car Polish will restore the shine...just pop past the parts department!! Ps. Your terra leather looks awesome! and I love that towbar - your car definately had that "cool" factor.... |

And for anyone wanting more information about the South African Factory:
E90Fleet did an excellent write-up after his first visit - here is the link: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...t=factory+tour |

Thanks for the info ... maybe waxing once month will do.... yep, I seldom get time to spend waxing and polishing my car(read lazy)
I was very impressed by the sound quality on the standard Professional radio on your car . The differences between Prof and Logic 7 are not so obvious, but then again it depends on the settings we had in each radio. Nevertheless, the gap between the two sound systems seems small. Enjoy and drive safely ....

Was great to meet everyone
In these 2 pics you can see 1) At VDC: cars waiting to go to dealers here. First 2 E91 we have seen in South Africa ( red circles), Sonora ( Green arrow), Barrique red ( Blue arrow ) 2) Entrance 1 to BMW PLANT ROSSLYN. This is the closest you can get to taking pictures in the factory |

On post #4, you can spot E90Fleet in the first picture... he's standing in the middle.... and in the 6th picture, he's standing behind his 540i. Broken1, did you notice how quickly your CD Shuttle cooperated, the minute E90Fleet checked it? .... these E90's can see/feel him .

It's a 20% VLT tint, and I wouldn't recommend the brand. I actually don't even know what brand it is! thrill30 has Llumar if I am correct, and I know that is a good quality one! |

The temperature has hit 34 degrees C a few times here, and I have been well protected from the sun. I can clearly feel the improvement because I haven't been forced to hide my arm away from the sun while driving... this used to happen in my untinted E46.

I got to the meeting place first, E90Fleet (I'll let him reveal his real name) arrived, recognized my car from the photo's and said "Dale" (my real name) and I said yes, and he said "Hi, i'm (real name) - E90Fleet. So we said hello, he parked his car and we started chatting. Then, thrill30 arrived. I saw him pull in to the parking lot and I said "Hey, there is thrill30" - so we walked up to his car and introduced ourselves. And all started chatting So it turns out - broken1's real name is Dale. It's really nice to be able to put a face to the forum names...and see the cars in person... |

I would like to remain known just as E90Fleet on the forum for personal reasons.
Broken1's story is almost right I was actually there first and stoped at the pumps for Petrol. When they were almost finished filling the car up I saw Broken1's 320d come flying in, park and him run into the garage shop. So I paid for the petrol and drove over to where he had just returned to his car |
