R&T reviews 135i DINAN S3

0-60mph in 4.5 seconds...
http://www.roadandtrack.com/future-c...uld-have-built

Try this on for size: Dinan’s 135i slingshots to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and blasts through the quarter mile in 13 flat at 109.1 mph—that’s 3.8 mph faster through the traps than a stock 135i. And in the race to 100 mph, the Dinan does it in 10.6 sec., 1.1 sec. quicker than the stock (but still remarkably quick) 135i.

I think there numbers for HP are a little high. (380whp with 13.8 psi.)

This interesting tidbit:
How does the Dinan manage? It all begins with the company’s Stage 3 package, which increases turbo boost from the stock 8.8 psi to 13.8,

I've read some of our posters, who have boost gauges, say that stock the system produces 7-8psi regularly, with occasional hits to around 9psi.
If stock is supposed to be 8.8psi, then it seems a lot of us are not getting what we should, by a good margin.

The new updated software has shown a decrease in boost by about 1psi, so around 6-7psi with hits around 8.
So, the new updates software lessens further the advertised stock boost of 8.8psi, accepting of course that R&T are correct, which they may not be.

Those drag strip times seems a bit slow actually. I managed 12.95s @ 111mph in my DMS tuned 135 vert (auto). Launch was pretty average, I reckon she's good for 12.8.

So for the Dinan coupe I would have expected 12.5 @ 114mph.

I'm not surprised at all. CarandD tested the Dinan Stage 3 335i as well. In a straight drag race no N54 with only a Flash/Software will not beat M3 numbers from 0 to 150mph. It dosen't matter if you have over 100lb+ tq and similiar HP numbers. I'm not one to compare the cars but clearly most that buy these things have that in the back of their minds. There is nothing like a car engineered from the manufacturer. Its more than a sum of its parts. There are so many things like gearing, weight distrubition, etc. These products sure do a good job of transforming a stock 135i into something else though. I'm sure the Dinan S3 has the advantage from a roll against a 6speed M. M-DCT, I'm not so sure.

FWIW, you're not just getting a power upgrade, you're also getting a wholly different suspension. Of course whether it's worth it or not is an individual opinion.

While it is expensive compared to some of the other options out there, you'll never get a Dinan basher to read anything written about their products logically. They only see what allows them to post their negative comments.

I'm curious if that car had the LSD or not. The article didn't mention it, but I don't see why they wouldn't have added it.

Probably no LSD, not included in the S3 package. Wouldn't mind some adjusted gearing to make 1st a little more useful though.

I wonder if they are running stock tires? These times seem slow to me.
