as far as the engines go, subaru raised the compression in the 08s but didn't adjust the fuel delivery system accordingly, resulting in detonation. it is my understanding that said issue has been fixed, but i'm certainly wary of it. |

I don't mind the stigma..., my '08 has yet to see a dealer...even for the scheduled maintenance...I'm only at 6k and changed the oil 3 times myself. The Subaru really is the better car to mod. You made the right choice in that respect. Good luck!

Ah, a paid off BMW as a college student. I could only dream. My college days as a Subway sandwich artist couldn't afford such things.

Understood. I traded a 2005 STI with 60,000 miles for the 135i; the only engine problem I had was a fan belt failure at 60k. Never had any tire problems either.

I hear you, Justin. I had a myriad of great jobs during university but either of those cars is still a stretch many professional working years later. Some people were born under the money tree...

If you're replacing them with some nice lightweight wheels like Volks, then sure. I remember reading numerous threads on the Subaru boards about STi owners replacing their BBS wheels with Rotas and such. Not that Rotas are bad wheels, but I do not understand why people were replacing expensive, lightweight, forged wheels with heavier cast wheels. On the plus side, with so many people dumping off the BBS wheels, I picked up a set from an '04 STi for a decent bargain.

I came from a 2006 sti before my 128. I miss that car dearly, especially in the winter. I would like to own another one day, but not as my daily driver.

i tried to buy an sti first before my 135i but the numbers weren't right. Keep an eye on the paint and get a clear wrap for it, it's a know error that the paint is thin.
besides that awesome car!!

already started the modding fun...intake silencer delete, hella supertones custom painted fluorescent pink, nokya yellows (2500k) drl/highs, pioneer dvd/bT head unit, JL audio evolution c2 speakers, and a JL 10w3 with an Alpine PDX-5 powering it all. oh, and 20% suntek carbon tint. sport sharp is the stuff dreams are made of. |

I'm in the same boat, I have about 18k miles left on my warranty and I will sell the car before it's up. I'm going to need something with 4 doors.
I *love* the 135i, but I just know it's going to be a pain outside of warranty. I'm sure I won't have any problems finding somebody who wants a 6MT 1-er. The new Suby is a nice ride, but I'm not sold on the latest exterior design. I still like the original "bug-eye" version the best.

Had a new 2005 for a few years. LOVED that car, had to get out of it for a few reasons. Had catless COBB Stg 2 Protune, full susp. mods, other mods.
Was a fun car. Anyway, wanted to get back into a fun car again and quickly realized the 2010 and 2011 STi's offer ZERO innovation over my 2005, so it would've been a "been there done that" thing to get into another one. The STi is no longer the cool thing it was back in '04 - other cars have caught up and surpassed it in many ways. Not to mention I had 4 Subarus before that - was just sick of them I guess. That said I miss the AWD from a dig but absolutely don't miss the parasitic loss of the AWD drivetrain from a roll. My 1er would destroy my STi from a roll or a race to 100+ easily. Hopefully Subaru will step things up a bit in 2013 when the new STi platform/motor comes out. Until then, I'm glad I've got my 1er...
