BMW Police Car
So I was thumbing through the latest BMW Magazine and saw the article on the new BMW Police Car. And I had to ask myself why they needed to give it a Cadillac front end?

So this will be one of the first Police Cars to not have a traditional brand like the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor?

I read that article, IIRC they won't be cost effective enough to be rolled out in large numbers.

Carbon Motors touts this as the first purpose-built police vehicle. There is no "civilian" counterpart that this is based on. BMW got the contract a couple of months ago to supply the vehicles with diesel engines.

They use 5-series as police cars in Shanghai. Saw one in front of my hotel when Hilary Clinton was staying in town.

Yup, not a BMW 5er. I don't really see this Carbon Motors car catching on with LE. A neat concept though.
Btw... have you guys seen the 1-er Polizei car from last year's Essen Motor Show? The car was built by AC Schnitzer, called the ACS1 They did the car for the "Tune it Safe" program bc there are more and more illegally tuned cars over here in DE. When the cops catch you you can loose your lic. lol |

Most German Polizei drive BMW's. Esp here in Bayern. Typically, in the German states that produce automobiles, they drive those cars.
So here in Bayern the cops drive Audi's and BMW's. In Baden Wuerterburg (Stuttgart) they drive MB's and a tiny few Porsches. In Hessen (Frankfurt) they drive Opels) and up North they drive VW's. One thing is that the cops keep their police csars a long long time! Like tweenty years is not uncommon! And BTW... a polizei or taxi model costs some 30% more than the basic car model. BC it has extra reinforcement and a more robust design over the standard model. |

Looks like it belongs in Robocop! You know if BMW touches sheetmetal it cannot produce something so ugly. But under the hood would be sweet, more efficiency saving some more of our hard-earned tax-dollars!
