New Tires and Break-in Period

...just wondering what you guys have done with your break-in period.
How many miles or km did you take it easy on your new rubbers till you let it rip?
I'm running DunlopDirezza Sport Z1 Star Spec and I've had them on the car for more less 400-500miles.
Last weekend I had a nice run with 650i and in around 110mph in wide turn for the first time I had that unsecured feeling and DTC was correcting whole lot of traction errors. I'm still trying to figure it out. What's to blame???
Are the tires not broken in yet? or maybe spacers are throwing off my DTC?
or was it as simple as really light car [128 M-sport, base HL, manual seats, no nav] at high speeds on the crappy road?
That was a westbound I80 if someone is familiar with the tristate area?
What do you think????

Tires need a couple hundred for break in, so you should be good...heres an idea though, come to the June 5th autox at Nassau colliseum...if you can beat me around the course, you know where the limits of your car are...but I can guarantee that you don't

Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec is a completely different tyre than the Direzza DZ101, it is 2 performance categories above (extreme vs ultra high performance). From a performance perspective, a step up from the PS2 or F1 GS D3 which are in the performance category below (maximum), as opposed to extreme:

I've used the Star Specs at track events with my M3, 2000 Cobra R, Audi TT, etc. Very hard to beat there performance for the price. On my Audi they had 23k miles and a dozen track events....still had 4-5/32nds left. But, to each their own....

To the op, just because you bought your BMW for "performance" doesn't mean you can ignore the laws, willy-nilly, thinking you're above them.

It's one thing if you're on the track, another thing on the public roads.

With grammar like this you should be the last person to chastise someone else regarding spelling or mental status:

As far as why folks buy BMW's, many of us who buy for performance reasons also have the brains to keep our performance driving off public roads and on closed courses.

Without knowing where the OP was, I will say that not all high-speed driving puts others in danger. Here in Texas, you can find very long flat straight roads with nobody within miles. Without actually admitting to a crime, I can say that one could safely hit very high speeds without putting anyone else in danger. There's a big difference between hooning on road with traffic and driving fast when you know nobody else is going to be in any danger.

Do they still have the 80 mph limit in west Texas? IIRC, nice roads, intelligent drivers & little traffic. But the OP indicates he's from New York city which (as you say) "is a big difference"!

The highest speed limit I've seen in Texas is 70 MPH, but I haven't driving much in west Texas (thankfully!) My firm is doing a merger with a firm in Midland/Odessa, and I'll be travelling there a lot for the next few months. I imagine once I get my 135i back, I'll probably take a couple of drives out there. I'll report any unusual speed limits if I find them.

In terms of nice drivers, you're right. In most of rural Texas, if you're out for a spirited drive on a two-lane road, most people will pull over and let you pass if they see you coming up. You don't see that a lot in this country.

And yeah, if he's in the tri-state area, he may not find an open road like that. My real point was that there are among some people in here whose reaction to any discussion of speeding is not that unlike the reaction of law enforcement: that the speed limit is the final word on safe driving. If my car is safe to drive at 140 mph in traffic on the autobahn, there certainly has to be some condition in the U.S. where 100+ mph driving is safe.

I've seen 85 just outside of Huston...much better drivers than here in NYC
