To wait or not to wait? Current vs. F20
At the end of the summer I am trading in my '07 Volvo C30 T5 for a 135i Cabriolet.
There's not much I don't like about the E88 135i Cabriolet (going to get 354 Titanium Silver OR 300 Alpine White + Boston Leather in LWD1 Coral Red + 4AS Poplar Grey Wood + 3YA Moonlight Black Roof + all options except automatic transmission)...but there's a few areas of concern... First off, I'd hate for them to come out a Z2 or if the F20 was going to be amazing...should I wait? Anyone in the same situation? Also, I don't think there will be a M1, but I think there could be a 135is either for the last year of this or the F20 body...and I'd be very interested in a higher performance model for sure...I'd actually be very pissed if I missed the "s" model by 6 months or something. I don't know...I guess I can wait and see and if I don't like it, I can find a nicely depreciated 135i Cabrio that's close to what I want. Thanks for the input! |

Actually, the managing director of BMW M GmbH already confirmed a M version of the 1... they just won't call it "M1" to reserve the name for the original M1. It's scheduled to release 2nd quarter 2011.

Yes, it's going to be 135is right?
I hate going into the dealerships because they really don't have any information about what's coming up...just trying to get you into a current model! |

when he says, "think of the z3, z4 m's." what were they called? these cars were simply known as "m coupes", and not z4m or z3m. and earlier BMW did state that there will not be an "M" version of the current Z because of the 1 series. the 1 series = true coupe and z coupe = true roadster. I am very certain, or would not say this so confidently... that we can call this future ///M uber 1, the new 2011 ///M Coupe...

No, it's going to be an M car, it just won't use the "M1" moniker.

20112 MY for the hatches in europe. The coupe and vert are following a year or 2 later. Since we dont get the hatches we get to wait.

Both are two different generations. With that said I believe when people use those terms it is simply to clarify which generation. If both were parked beside one another you wouldn't say "look at that M coupe", whether you say z4 m, m coupe, or e84 m you are describing the same car, my point is there are more ways then one to state the same thing, so really whats the difference?

That's basically the car I have except I do have the auto. No need to wait unless you really want the M version of the E88 which I'm sure will be impressive.

Waiting can be endless because makers always work on improvement cars and bring something tasty to force consumer to buy new cars. From other side, cutting cost, so next version will lose some good features.

The F20 is still a while away. If you can wait, I would wait for the M1. The 135i is already a beast so expect the M1 to be a ripper. However, coming from a volvo the 135i should be a huge step up in every possible aspect anyway.

I think I would wait until there's more info on the M1, 1M, M135i, 135i M whatever lol, before we start discussing it's name here. I wouldn't wait for the F20 though as you have to be patient lol, the coupe and vert models are still a couple of years away, they will introduce the hatch first. But knowing myself it can be hard waiting, when I have a new car in my mind, emotions usually overtake lol
The C30 T5 is a nice car btw, saw one yesterday.
