Damage During Service
Hey all, I came up with this form today since I have a servicing coming up. We're all familiar with the "damage notation" form we're made to sign when receiving a loaner, right? Why should that be a one-way street? Maybe you'll want to have your service writer inspect your vehicle and sign this form when you drop off for service so any new ding or scratch won't have to come into dispute. Had that happen once with my Jeep, and did not enjoy having to fight with the dealer, who of course claimed it wasn't their doing. Let me know what you think.

You have to inspect the vehicle along with the person who's about to loan it out to you. Make sure to look for dings and scratches.
Oddly enough, my dealership (I've taken a loaner once) gave me the walk around, then I took the car. When I returned it, I came up to the front desk, gave them my papers, and returned the key. The man at the desk only asked, "Did you put gas back into it?" I informed him I filled it to the same as it was when I borrowed it. He was good with that and that was it. No visual inspection of the car or anything. I could've left the car at home, gave him the key and paperwork and still had the car. Anyway, I don't take loaners any more, since you're liable for everything. If you get into an accident, even if it's not your fault, you're paying for it. Just not a risk I want to take. My dealer has shuttle service that takes me pretty much anywhere I'd need to go. My home, my work, my parent's home, my girl's home, etc. They also offer a pick-up service, so should the car be done in time, I could have them drop me off at work, and pick me up and bring me back to the dealership.

I'm with you on not having a car, escobar929! I just don't want to responsible for a car that even if I didn't damage, I'd end up paying for.
Luckily, most of my friends live close, and my girl lives with me (occasionally visits with her mom), and work is 8 minutes from where I live. I don't have another car, but I find ways to get around if needed.

Looks like no one understands the OP's post. Hes proposing making the dealer fill out the same type of form that we are required to when receiving a rental or loaner car when they take your car for service. There are quite a few of our cars damaged by dealerships and they deny responsability.
I think its a great idea. I hear about it all the time. With fellow Corvette owners its not uncommon for dealers to lift the cars without using jacking pucks and cracking the rocker panels. It happens pretty often even after they're told to use pucks. It costs alot of time for dealers to repair these types of costly errors and some do deny causing the damage. Great idea. |

I like the idea, but it sort of presents an accusatory tone before they do anything wrong.

How is that accusatory? The dealers make you fill out the same type of form to protect their interest. Do you feel offended and accused? A person should be able to protect his interest and having them fill out this type of form and protects ours.

I'm not saying it isn't justified, trust me. I can just see them taking offense since it isn't standard procedure.

My dealership walks around MY car and looks it over to show me my dings and scratches. and then they mark it up.

Thanks NYC6, for clarifying! As for this seeming accusitory, why should it be okay for the dealer to make you sign the same form when they are giving you a loaner, but not to have THEM sign something similar?? I don't take it as accusatory when I sign their form, I just realize they're being careful and trying to avoid responsibility for something a customer does to a loaner. And geez, if the dealer scratches your car during service but you can't prove it after the fact, is the cost to repair it worth avoiding a small uncomfortable situation beforehand? Heck no! I'll do it with a smile and it'll be done in a minute. The Jeep dealer that dented my door fought with me for two weeks and had the balls to accuse ME of being dishonest and deceitful, before agreeing to split the cost for the damage they fully incurred. I work too hard for my money...gonna' use the form!
