Exhuast Shipping to .AU

Gents and ladies

Looking at purchasing an exhaust - I know there's plenty of threads on this, but would appreciate some ideas for good o/s shops that are shipping friendly to Australia.

I'm either looking at:
- Maddad
- Berk
- Corsa

Whilst I'm asking stupid questions I'm a little confused about the benefit of DP-Back or Axle back.

- Are there significant benefits from the DP-Back? over the axle back?
- If I purchase an axle back, can i fit the dp-axle peice at a later date?
- If the car this exhaust was going onto had ****** DP's would this sway the selection of either Maddad, Berk or Corsa?

I've found axleback's are quite expensive to ship to Australia ($300-$400) and don't offer power increase where as DP's are only about $100 to ship and do give a nice power increase as well as a slight increase in sound.

got to take into account installation cost as well as the DP would be more time consuming vs the axle back.

When you say downpipe back exhaust I assume you are referring to the midpipes and axel back which come after the downpipes. All the power gains to be had are in the downpipes. The midpipes will drop some weight and increase the sound and give you a few horsepower, but there's nothing in it. The axel back will give you the sound you are looking for though. I'm running a muffler delete axel back and it's LOUD but I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm sure others cringe when they hear my car though lol. It's not for everyone.

and to add to that you can add the midpipes/dp/axelback any time you wish you dont need to purchase it all in one go.

+ 1

Downpipes will cost $$ as the install is a PITA even though it's completely bolt-on. The midpipes are axel back are equally easy, probably no more than $50 to install them.

Even if it's just to calculate your GST and Custom's Duty, it should give you a really good idea of full costings involved.

Maddad are Aus shipping friendly, approx $250 for the Street series axle back.

Axle backs are much more about noise than performance. The restrictions are in the cats not the stock muffler.

Many guys in the states run whisper series maddad mufflers with catless DPs and mids to keep the volume in check and are very happy with the result. Depends how loud you want to go I guess.

Thanks for the feedback guys. It almost feels not worth the expense, but the whole sound thing would be nice!

BMW86 - I'm listening to your exhaust on youtube - i like. what are you running? Catless DP's? Cattless mid? muffler delete?

Where did you get the DP-back from? can you post links?

I know everyone says this but the video doesn't really do it justice. I took a few of the guys on here for a spin yesterday and they all liked it but not sure if they could live with it as a daily. It is one of the more aggressive sounding setups you can run. I'm running AR Catless Resonated Downpipes and Active Autowerke Muffler Delete. I did the Muffler delete first and that gave me 95% of the sound, the downpipes just allow you to hear the turbo spooling up a bit more but don't necessarily add to the overall volume. I'll try and put another sound clip up soon as I've added an intake and BOV which compliments the sound. If you go with a muffler delete be prepared for some drone that happens between 2200-2800rpm especially when the car is under load. It doesn't bother me at all though because my foot is usually planted flat on the accelerator or brakes.. just kidding

I personally wouldn't bother with getting anything mid pipes back from overseas purely because of shipping costs.

All that stuff can be made here.

They're just pipes! The DP's where it counts for performance.
Hopefully I'll be at the shop on sat. I'll let ya know!

Thanks I'm still unsure if I should replace the mid-pipes, loving the sound but sometimes wish it had more volume!

the above is a perfect example of international shipping with this stuff!

I used to be the Tanabe dealer for Aust when i had my workshop. Cost of exhaust system $600 au, cost of shipping $800 au delivered in a week.

But if you are willing to wait, ask if they will ship it by sea. It will be MUCH cheaper but you will have to wait about 3 months for it to arrive.

I started importing mufflers instead of the whole system.. smaller, much cheaper, easier to sell and sound great!

Unless you want to burn the cost of the part with shipping costs like crazy, take my advice and get the mids made locally.

Those prices are ludicrous! I'd put that money towards flying over there and bring it back in my suitcase. At least you get a free holiday out of it lol!

Well I was looking at the berk race muffler (no midpipe) and it was only $349, I was hoping it would only cost like $100 to ship...
