What is a stick shift? The dual clutch tranny is what race cars use so it belongs in a GT3.

You may be right - this car is designed for going round the track quickly. But lack of true manual takes a bit of the fun away. Makes it feel clinical? :

As a manual driver for 30 years and the 135i i just sold was a paddle shifter...That is the reason i sold it....As fast as some cars are even with paddles you still do not feel as connected as a 6M/T...not even close in my book. If the car is a DD then a auto/DCT/ etcetc w/paddles is understandable but for pure engagement give me a M/T .....
Back on topic...I visit the Porsche dealer almost every Sunday...What Great Great cars ,,,,,I wish i could afford a new one or even a slightly used one....maybe a 2nd morgage Home equity would do it...But at this point a lease makes more sense. Someday in this life time i hope... |

DCT or Manual
Yep i love my manual cars to but to be fair i have great respect for the DCT type trans,
Last week i had two VW type R in the shop for tuning etc, one a 6 speed manual and the other a DCT well after spending time with both on the dyno and the road the DCT wins. You cant compare the two it is night and day for driving pleasure and full on performance. Sorry to say the game has changed I have a client with a 996TT 4X4 Auto, Guys it is not nice. sooner have the clunky old manual in this case, I could never afford a new GT3 at least not in Aust but dreams are free Last edited by Kiwi Peter; 03-07-2013 at 02:12 AM.. |

Couldn't agree more, the Porsche 991 GT3 is fant ** tastic. And mostly because of the DCT tranny. The march of technology never stops, get on board or get run over.

At this point I am saying no to this car. My issues are the following:
- CL nut issue has not been resolved in 997.2. Unless they have fixed the issue, it's always a risk - RWS with a brushless motor is looking for failure on the track. Waiting for this to be a proven technology for track rats before I jump - New 9A1 based DFI engine another unproven part unlike old Mezger. This may prove to be unfounded fear like the RWS, but until Porsche race one at Nurburgring 24hours or put it in their Cup/RSR race cars, I remain unconvinced. This is the first time the GT3 road car and cup car has deviated so much. Previously they share the engine, now they are completely different (Cup car still uses old Mezger) and Cup car doesn't have some fancy RWS system. What I love about the new car though is 9000rpm and 410mmx36mm PCCBs! As for PDK vs manual, I have had both on many different cars and I don't mind either. For the track, PDK is going to be much better for lap times but manual is more involving so depends on what you want out of your car. And how many cars you have. |

Wow thank Trexx. Scary stuff right there! That is part of the reason I gave up my GT3. Having said that, I have now learned of a way to make the 997.2 GT3 use 5 lugs (basically thanks to 997.1 GT3) so I want a RS lol. But that only works with 997. 991 doesn't have such a solution.

Certainly do not want this thread to be a DCT/6Mt debate as we have heard that long enough but......i agree for all out performance my paddle shifting 135i was way quicker than a manual, was great in traffic and overall much easier to drive but after the initial high wears of after driving for a half hour on the 'road"..not track..... the driving pleasure drops considerably. And yes a M/T is old school but for the few hours a week i have to go out for fun drives on the road the M/T is way more engaging....Speed aside the m/t cars are still fast, not as fast as DCT but for road driving you are alway's physically involved...As a semi professional drummer who uses all four limbs to play when you take away the feet, it's a totally different ball game. I will leave my DD as an auto and my fun/ semi fast cars for 6M/T. But in the end we do agree but for different driving reasons. Automakers doing away with m/T may be on the right path for sales but as a long time driving enthusiast nothing keeps you engaged like a m/t...good or bad. Yea, i love Porsche ALL OF THEM actually. |

PDK only?
Donut mode? No Metzger engine? Electronic power steering? That car is dead. Hooray for another magazine numbers badge whore.
