Thoughts on bmw performance and aftermarket air filters
Do they really do anything for our cars? Which one has proven to give the most gains?

Nope, no gains (well not really). They look cool though. Not 800 dollars cool though. Just buy AFE or Euro intake.
BMW PE has ok gains though. I went with the magnaflow exhaust instead. You should , probably find some good answers. |

I thought the measurable gains (other than decibels) from the BMW Performance Exhaust equaled zero?

I'm about to get the three stage manifold, tune and exhaust based on feedback from some other guys on the forum. But no-one mentioned an air filter i was just curious. Thanks for the tips guys.

My county requires emissions testing, so the AFE SI, 3-Stage Manifold, Evolve Tune and Supersprint headers seems to be my best bet.
However I'm curious whether the new AA headers w/ their tune is a viable alternative. I know the price is lower, but its not clear whether the performance is equivalent to the SS / Evolve combo.

You pay a premium for the SuperSprint headers, and to some it's worth it. I can absolutely understand wanting the best, but I don't think there are any performance benefits to be had by going with SuperSprint over Active Autowerke. Just my .02 |

I think it is the the Intake Elbow is where the gains come from on AFE SI closed box or when you add RM Elbow to OEM or Euro airbox ( I have this and love that it restored my exhaust sound after i went Euro box to be louder vs OEM box/paper filter).
The PIntake offers somethign like 17% more air flow into the Box because of the snorkel design. Otherwise, BMW Filter has been declared to be an K&N that is non oiled, but sometimes is both oiled or non like in the Euro version ( go figure why they flip flop) I use the AFE Euro box Grey Dry filter. I really love that I can clean it in its 2-3 year life span

Depends on the state you live in, and how many systems they allow to not be ready for a pass.
