BMW sends 40,000 home for the week

Here in Spain the news today was that BMW is stopping production for a week due to weak demand and the weak global economy. I am still waiting for my car to be delivered, has anyone else been told that their car will be delayed?

(En Espaņol)
http://www.elpais.com/articulo/econo...lpepueco_4/Tes

(Rough English Translation)
The German car manufacturer BMW has ceased production for this entire week and sent 40,000 workers to their house to rest before the weak demand for cars in all markets.

A spokesman for BMW has announced that from today until Friday and will not work the production lines in German factories in Munich, Regensburg and Dingolfing. Following last week to suspend production at its plant in Leipzig four days and one day the Berlin BMW estimated that its production was cut this year in some 25,000 cars.

Last September, the Bavarian car manufacturer already recorded a decline in sales of 14.6% to approximately 121,000 units.

Yes it is but it's bulletproof. I drove a military version while stationed overseas, and they're incredible. They sure are ugly though.

Are you crazy?!
The G-class Mercedes is the only existing REAL Mercedes left. The brand's been heavily contaminated with Chrysler and as a result, the cars are no where near as well made nor as durable as the Mercedes of early 1990s and prior.

Perfect of example of a decline in quality to increase sales and production numbers.

Right now is a scary time for those of us who have jobs related to the auto industry. Just about every manufacturer's sales have dropped to a point where layoffs are unavoidable, with no real reason to recover any time soon.

Considering how many jobs in the US are related to the auto industry in one way or another, the effects to the overall economy could be devestating if the trend continues.

I own a GL (bought for the Mrs) and let me tell you two things -

1 - the diesel is friggin awsome - 24mpg. How YOU doin?
2 - the 3d row will fit two full size adults, making room for 7-8 people EASY.

If it was my daily driver I'd have gone with the Q7 but it doesn't have either option above, and therefore, isn't in my garage! :-P

OMG - My coupe is in production - it would be here a week sooner if it wasn't for this

Okay, get them back to work NOW, I need my 1er

But seriously, I hope its not stuck on the assembly line - It might take some time to get back up to full quality - I don't want a lemon

Have Fun,
Rick

That ran through my head too. I hope they pick back up where they left off!! I'm sure it will be fine man. I cant imagine BMW stopping in the middle of a car. They would probably stop at the end of the day.
