You can get Castrol Edge 5W 30 from most parts shops like supercheap, Repco and Auto one. You can also use Mobile 1 0W 40 which is what I have currently. I just purchased some of this Liqui Moly last week. It's an LL-01 oil and I figure it's made in Germany so it has to be good for our cars.

Thats pretty good value. Can you combine shipping on that? I'd be in for a group buy on that..

According to castrol it's LL01 which as far as I am aware is the oil for the n54

oil

Here we go again, you all run $50-100,000 cars and you use crap oil even the M1 uses Castrol 10/60 you all keep saying that it is the same engine the N54 fitted to most of your cars. so why use 5/30 long life crap.
You should use at least a 10/40 syn oil and change it every 5000km with a new filter. if you dont do this you will pay the price.

+2. I am also a fan of changing my oil often. Its the best thing one can do to extend the lfie of one's engine - I feel.

A fellow 1addict's member showed me this website. They really have the best prices on oil. Espcially BMW oil.

I run Castrol RS Edge 0w40 LL-4 oil in my 135i. At just eight euros per liter it is one hell of a good price. Btw.. LL-4 can be used where LL-1 is spec'd, but not the other way around!!! So you guys could use LL-4 rated oil even though you need LL-1 rated oils.
http://www.oeldepot24.de/catalog/pro...products_id=79

You guys might send them an email and ask what shipping would costs to down under...

http://www.oeldepot24.de/catalog/shipping.php

click on the left under: Kontakt It looks like 24.50 euros is their max fee for EU customers. Even IF they charged you 50 euros shipping... their price on BMW oil is dirt cheap. Only five or six euros per liter. While most dealers over here charge btween 23 and 32 euros per liter for the SAME oil!!

All I know is there was a raging debate on the main board a few months ago and it came down to you can't/shouldn't put just any old oil in the n54 and the LL01 has the properties BMW engineers require????

I kinda figure as long as I change it regulary should be ok??

stock or not

If your car is stock and you live in the UK yes then use the BMW crap.
But a lot of you guys have up spec cars that make more than the IM + some. We live in Australia can get to 45deg your engines are working at 50%-100% over stock power wise. what do you think you should do, use BMW spec oil
or use your brian spend a few bucks and use the best oil you can get.
Motul 300V 10-40, Castrol 0-40, but for cars that have 270+KW USE 15-50 Motul
or 10-60 Castrol
Thats me done.

That is fine in your car, but i would use 10/40 Motul oil when you do your mods, and use the 15/50 Motul or 10/60 Castrol for summer track days.

What would you recommend for a 1M in Darwin - 30C-35C & High humidity. Gets driven daily with a once a month track session?

I was thinking this also. Was just thinking it'll take so long to warm up on day to day driving.

The oil thermostat will work as normal so the oil will warm up the same as it does now,
there should be no change. by using 10/60 Castrol you can run your car as hard as you like
and know it will be OK. The IM has twin oil coolers so there will be no issue with mods.
Nice car

Sounds good. Would the heavier oil affect day to day performance?
