I really want to improve the sound on my 1er but DON'T want to void my warranty. I have the bmw power kit and was thinking about the berk race bolt on. I don't want mids or DP but I think the berk will definently do the job for me and I'm attracted to the race exhaust because I want it loud. Also i have the N55. Let me know what you guys think thanks

Berk Race or Active Autowerke's would be my choice for loud.

Be sure to double check with your dealership regarding the exhaust and your warranty. I was told by the one that sold me my car that even a simple exhaust would void my warranty...

^thats actually illegal...in order for any car warranty to be voided, the change made must be directly related to the failure...say if your fuel pump goes they can't void the repair...if the cat goes bad they would probably be able to void it although it is unrelated

If you are really worried, you can pay the premium for the BMW performance exhaust

You should look into BMW's Performance Exhaust. It really sounds good, exspecially once a few thousand miles have been put on it. It pops and crackles and sounds mean.

Does it compare to other brands like berk, AR disign, Afe. I will spend the money and would rather go with PE if it gives the same results.

All of the exhaust makes very little power. gains of less then ~5 Hp. But they all sound different. You really should listen to a few in person before buying one.

I'm no expert but I'm fairly certain that adding an intake or even an exhaust changes the parameters of the systems that BMW has designed enough for them to blame those parts in the case of an engine related failure. While there are dealerships that are more lenient than others, they are all well within their rights to deny warranty work if you choose to break the rules of the warranty that they provide you with.

I'd recommend the BMW PE exhaust then. It's louder and sounds great albeit without the drone and excessive noise of some other exhausts. gives it a nice sporty tone and volume without being irritating.

+1 on the PE. Here is a vdeo I made of the PE exhaust display at the BMW Welt this summer. It was outside at the DTM weekend. Disregard the M logos on the display.

NOTE: The PE in real life sounds way better!

No love for Maddad exhausts?

I've read that the factory 135i exhaust is very restrictive compared to the 335. Is this just regarding the downpipes, or mid pipes or the whole thing?

The N54 mids are more restrictive than the N55 mids. Which is why a lot of N54 guys try to find N55 guys that just upgraded to a full system and get their mids for cheap.

I have never come across an FI car that DIDNT come with a restrictive DP from the factory. As for the axle back portion im not sure. Cant see much difference from the 135i to the 335i in that specific section.

As for dealer and warranty. Find a dealer that is mod friendly. Yes, they are out there. Get in good with a SA and talk to them about what you intend to do. Find one that will be real with you and not just be the annoying asshats that say "any mods void warranty...." because they are wrong and just being annoying asshats.

If you are THAT worried about it then either stick with BMW Performance parts or get parts and learn to install them yourself so that you can swap them out when it comes time for a service visit.

Unless you screw something up on the install there is no way to know.

Even if it throws a code you can play dumb and there is nothing they can do if you have it back to 100% stock.

I know a few people that swap there tuning setups on and off every time they go in. Same with DP, full exhaust, etc etc. Main thing is that if you are worried about it, swap it out before you go in.

My hpf exhaust is crazy nice. The only other one I would even consider would be ind eisenmann.

If you want loud, the BMW performance exhaust may disappoint. The BMW perf exhaust has a great sound but it is only slightly louder than stock. The change (and value) is more in the tone.

The berk race will be considerably louder and has a good aggressive tone to it. It is also a lot cheaper than the bmw performance exhaust. It should not violate your warranty in anyway.
