All I can say is , nice job Renault, well done. BMW has to react on this by putting apropriated tires, pull out the speed limiter and finally rent the Renault driver for a couple of hours. Guess we could be impressed. |

I can't find any information about the car itself. How many components were changed for the ring run? I can see that the inside mirror already came off...
The driver plays a huge role on the Nordschleife. If you look on the times of the "VLN-Langstreckenmeisterschaft" you can find out, that some drives are up to 10sec quicker around the ring compared to other professionals in the same racecar. Awesome driver + perfect setup + UHP Tires... In the video the car did a 8:20min... maybe 8:15min But still it is a very very impressiv time! |

It's not unbelievable...The Megane RS 250 Cup Trophee is a fantastic drivers car, so this tuned version would certainly be impressive...
BTW, here's another article on the same topic: http://www.ausringers.com/2011/06/19...wd-record.html |

Ok I have better read now, this car is produced in only 500 cars, have a race body, and race tires....so is a competition version...but really nice job...Also price is amazing just 35500 euro so about 20000 less then 1M....but I'm sure with race wheel and some setting on 1 M any renault have no chance.....

Taking nothing away from the meg as its a great achievement but comparing with the 1M lol
Ring times are all about bragging rights and nothing more, you can not compare 2 cars with 2 totally different drivers on one circuit at totally different times, firstly how long did the sportauto writer/driver have with the 1M to familiarise himself totally with the car, where as the driver of the Meg is one of the Renault sport test drivers who is involved with the development process, Renaultsport had even set up a mini camp in the lead up with plenty of pre testing and driving before the record attempt. I take all ring lap times with a pinch of salt, all good to look at and pull the piss out of but for most we will never see lap times like the ones recorded in the same cars lol I would still have the R26.R ; ) |

In the "Sport Auto Supertest" were Horst von Saurma did the lap it is always the same.
1 quick lap and the second one counts. This should reflect the driveability of a car thus the Pagani and Konigsegg were a bit underperforming because they are very hard to drive. |

My buddy in Australia has the Megane 250 cup which is a slightly more "daily driver" version of the 250 Trophy.
From what I understand, the Trophy has about 15 extra HP (265 bhp) and 19's with race rubber and better aerodynamics. I was a little surprised at first however the talk is that the 1M with a more compliant suspension would be a few seconds quicker. The Megane is also 2950 lbs, 400lbs lighter than the 1M |

As said by the great Jeremy Clarkson, weight is the killer of any good car.
