North NJ Exhaust Install?

Hey guys,

I've been looking over the recommended shops sticky and called a couple of them seeing what the price of an install for a rear section bolt-on exhaust and they've all been quoting me for about 3 hours and at least 150 bucks! Yeah right I'd do the job myself if I had rhino ramps, but I figured if I can get it done for about 50 bucks it would be worth the premium over buying the ramps and WD-40 and doing it myself, but everywhere it giving me 3 hour labor times for a job that should take 1/2 an hour to an hour max. Anyone know of any place that actually doesn't try to screw you like this in North NJ?

Thanks,
Andre

You'll probably laugh, but I'd recommend Meineke for a simple bolt-on swap out like that. The one in Ramsey did mine on my crx when I was in a pinch and had to get a stock exhaust slapped on to pass inspection.

I'm not sure you can get it for $50, but it would be cheaper than the "real" shops you looked into.

For 50 bucks I was just thinking around that area for an hour of labor, which isn't that fr fetched in my opinion. But you're probably right, it might be worth it to look into meineke etc, you can't really screw up a bolt on rear section exhaust installation..

The Meineke by my house in North Bergen put a whole mid-muffler system on my 08 Mustang GT for $90.

lol what shops charge $50/hr??? a plumber will charge more.

standard rates for indy shops are $75-85/hr so you're looking at 2hrs labor. while the job is simple, it still takes 2 hrs from the time the car's on the lift, remove any underpanels, cut whatever existing piping there is, put up the new one, adjust for fitment/look, and bring it back down. and also take into account to get it done quickly/right, it's going to be a 2 man job. 150 seems fair if its a reputable shop who knows what they're doing.

2 man job maybe, but there's no cutting. It's strictly bolt on. I've watched it done at my shop and it's literally a 15 minute swap, and that's with them looking at it for a while to make sure they know what to do. Was in and out in 30 mins so that's 1/2 an hour of labor.

you're telling me the stock pieces can be taken off w/o cutting? i thought all factory exhausts were 1 piece. i still doubt u'll find a shop to do it for $50 unless you go to a generic indy shop. i once brought my prev car to a crappy no name indy shop to get some tips welded on and paid him $40. but assuming you want to get it done right, u gotta pay to play. i really doubt any shop will find $50 worth their time.

if it's such a relatively simple install, why not put the car on a jack and have you and your buddy do it yourself? where in nj are you btw? have you tried bimmerclinic? bill is very reasonable...

Which exhasut? I know the BMW performance exhaust IS REALLY easy, no welding, the hangers are really simple, just cut off from the resonators down use the clamp and attach the new exhaust into the stock hangers. 1 hour to 2 hours, and done for someone with no experience in exhaust installs I'd think.

For someone who actually has any sort of experience, I'd estimate an hour MAXIMUM! I have none, plus I'd have to pay for Rhino ramps so I'm not totally loving the idea of doing it myself. It's a really easy install, I just want someone who recognizes the fact that it's a ridiculously easy install, and is willing to do it for not much more than the ramps cost by themselves to just save me the work/the liability of me fucking up when/if i do it myself. It really shouldn't be more than a 50 buck job I know not a lot of people are willing to do that, but I'm also not willing to pay more than that for some guy just jacking my car up, removing an easily removable rear section exhaust, zip-tying some tubing, then rebolting a new exhaust on with no welding required..

Also, I found (possibly, but at least one) a couple guys willing to do it for much cheaper than Meineke with better service, so it IS possible!!! Don't pay a ridiculous amount for a seriously simple install!!
