Fob Trunk Question

I recently purchased a 135i and really love it however I am not entirely certain if the trunk is supposed to open on its own after pushing the button on the trunk or holding the trunk button on the key fob. The trunk will open once I push it up a few inches, I was thinking maybe the struts are bad. I have looked around and found that the hatchback will not open automatically without modified struts but found nothing on the coupe.

I appreciate any input on the matter.

They are not automatic. Have to say I hated it at first. But after a few new model loaners that pop up by themselves it became annoying to close and they fling open super fast. I'd rather lift it myself.

I'm sure they're is a retrofit somewhere.

I appreciate the info and was expecting that to be the case, I just found it confusing to have the option to hold the trunk button to open the trunk without it actually fully opening.

There was a post on here about shimming the arms and adding a spring at one point. Here's a thread over on babybmw.net detailing a 1er hatch mod to make it open for you.
