Can you wash your car too much?

I'm a bit OCD with dirty cars, so I tend to wash it multiple times a week even when it gets a little dusty. Jet black doesn't help. Not a full wash/clay though, just a normal hand wash.

As long as your using proper washing techniques you should be able to wash as much as possible.

I would recommend the "Garry Dean" wash method. This is how I wash my cars now, I also own a Jet Black BMW and have no issues with excessive swirling using this method. I follow this wash method with chemical guys V7 spray detail and have found this to be a great combo.

Living in Vancouver...lots of rain...I wash my car lots and it is also jet black. I find a good coat of sealant makes a difference. I use Menzerna powerlock sealant. It make a big difference. The dirt and grime floats of the paint much easier and the car dries with much less effort. I always use the 2 bucket method and then dry the car with my blower (Stihl lawn blower) and do minimal hand drying...just try and spot dry with my drying towels. People can knock jet black but my car sure looks good when clean.

I'm curious about this as well, I unfortunately have to occasionally street park and get hit by sprinklers with insanely hard water . Causes me to wash my car (BSM) quite frequently.

Yeah, I've read about it. I don't mind the washing - just wondering if it'll affect the clear coat at all if I wash too much.

Unlikely.

My E36's finish held up quite well (washed every other week for the most part) for 18 years... If anything, I didn't wash it enough: the pollutants in the air affected the clear coat.

As long as you use a quality car wash at the proper strength and wax every month or so wash as much as you like. Before I retired I would wash my car a couple of times a week after work to unwind. Then I would wash it again over the weekend. Now I average twice a week since the car spends more time in the garage. I also wash my wife's car at least once a week. Good therapy

Is anyone using those Hess gas station touchless car washes? It basically a car wash that only uses a water and a air dryer. Nothing touches the car except blasts of water.
