N55: turbos, crankshaft

So after the N55 vs N54 thread coming to an end, the main things I have learned is that n55 twinscroll turbos not providing as much power with tunes, and tuners dreading the crankshaft due to it being cast rather than forged, or the other way around (whatever). Has anyone swapped tubos or and crank fom n54 to n55? Has anyone put a aftermarket turbo on either engine? Hks, Garret?

I doubt we will ever make enough power to harm a crankshaft...

How about DCT cranks/clutch(es), are they weaker or stronger than manual ones?

I noticed on the new BMW Performance package that torque is +30ft for the DCT yet only +17 for manual...?

Cheers!

The manual is a getrag transmission. It's a beast. Not very familiar with the DCT.

I've read on here that it (DCT) can start to slip with some higher power levels. Can't confirm that though.

Agreed. Keep the oil flowing, the cast crank will be just fine. You'll melt piston tops if you aren't tuned correctly long before you'll damage a crank.

No offense but I'm reading "I heard the N55 is worse because of something someone said about the crank, and I don't really know what they are talking about, but my engine must suck, what can I do?????". Are you pumping out enough power that you have cause for concern?

I guess i should have worded it better. I dont think it is worse, both engines are in my opinion a masterpiece otherwise I wouldnt drive a bmw. its just the same thing I keep coming back to: crankshaft. I do agree that pistons will melt long before crank will be harmed, but tuners number 1 thing to say is: nah n55 crank aint good, cant tune it as far as n54. I think it has more to do with bmw not wanting the engines tuned.
