Who Switched From 135i to 1M?

So it's obvious that I am considering making the switch from my 135i to the 1M.
I'm still trying to decide "is it worth it?"

How many of you made the switch and what are your thoughts and what was the deciding factors?

Mine was paid off I would not sell it. You would have to pry it from my cold, dead hand!

How do you drive? Do you ever autocross or track? Spend any time with DSC off?

I'd say the change is definitely worth it if you were buying the 1M for MSRP when they first came out. But now to buy one for more than MSRP with an already 15k+ miles? I personally would wait for the new M2 or look at the new A45 AMG that's about to come out.

Also if you track then it's better to just get the E92 M3. I have a friend who got a 1M when it first came out and he put 30+track days on it. Sold it for a profit and got an E90 M3, started tracking that and his time was much faster. The 1M is extremely hard to perfect and learn on the track. The M3 is alot more friendlier. His 1M was FBO as well, making 450hp/torque but his M3 posts faster times with basic bolt ons and no supercharger.

I'm sure I'll get some flaming for this post but that's just my opinion.

To compare apples to apples , you can find 1M with 10-20k miles on it around $50k , a similar optioned newer 135i used in pristine condition would be around $35-37k

I did it!! I think the 1M is the 135i in perfection!!

It was worth it, to sell the 135i for the 1M!!

I made the switch too. The 135 and the 1M are two totally different machines. My 135 was an AT N54 with paddle-shifters and to me the acceleration felt faster. But that's about the only thing about the 135 that felt better to me. The 1M beats it in every other way. Getting behind the wheel of the M was a revelation in comparison to the 135i.

So will the 1M feel too similar to the 135 to warrant the upgrade? Nope. It will feel like you bought a totally different car.

Is it "worth" it to get into a 1M right now? That depends what is important to you. Right now the 1M has developed an almost mystical aura amongst gearheads. It is viewed as arguably BMW's most pure sports cars since the original M3. If you want a special car that gets constant thumbs ups and attention, then the premium is worth it.

And yes, the 1M is a special car. I mean really special. For example, I went to a Ferrari show last weekend and I quietly mentioned to a Ferrari owner that "I was the guy in the Orange 1M who gave you the thumbs up" and I swear a group of people stopped staring at the Ferraris and swarmed around me asking if "I really had a 1M?" and "is it parked close by?" and "can we see it?!" It was surreal. I was standing not 150 feet from a Ferrari F40 and a Ferrari 330 GTO!!

There is no such thing as a similar option 135 to a 1M.

Why?
It's a M car

Its a 135i with a lot of m3 part...
Still with n54 (tuning),
Widebody (cant do that with my 135i without a lot of $$$$$$$$)
Rare car

I have no regret, except the exhaust drone... corrected by the n55 mid pipe

Same, from 135i to 1M. Two completely different cars. Test drive it and see if it make any difference to you.

I did not. I was going to pull the trigger on an 09/10 135i, but at the Tokyo Auto show they had the Concept 135 tii. I told myself if they make that car I will get it.

I did. Loved both. The 135i was great drive and less stressful because not as rare. But go ahead and get the 1M. Different animal.

I also came from 135, not 1, but 2. I never regret that I switched to 1M. Love the car performance, to me it's a lot better handling than 135. Also I got a good deal on this car. The only problem I had with this car is when I went to track, I had a warped rotor after 1 day. Now I replaced with the new rotor and upgrade to a street/track pad, that the vibration of steering wheel came back. So either my breaking technique is wrong or something not working well with stock rotor. As today, I got myself a race pad, see if the problem will stop. If this solved my problem, I might not need to switch to the new cayman s.

I used to drive my car everyday, but I am too lazy to put my 1 year old to the back seat everyday, this become my weekend and track car. So I only had 8500 miles on it.

Also, got a trade in quote from local Porsche with $60k, so this is the only car that make money if I sell it.

I made the switch as well for 3 reasons:

1) limited slip differential
2) wider tire accommodation (really needed this in the front)
3) better brakes that won't turn green

Very happy with my decision. As others have said, it's more different than most realize. The adaptive steering is immediately noticeable as lighter than the 135i. You'll also quickly realize that you can easily lose traction in the rear tires with the 1M when the damn e-diff in the 135i would always interfere. Too many other small differences to list here, but overall a much better performance car and safer investment of $ than the 135i.
