PPK1 surprise

Well I just picked up my 2008 135iCV expecting to get nothing but a bill and a slightly quicker car with a new sticker under the hood. I was was very surprised to have the dealer hand me this:
Old DME

They were also surprised when instead of a code to program into the DME they received a whole new DME.

On a side not the sticker is actually a sticky backed aluminum plaque.

Very surprised and very pleased.

Agreed but I wanted to keep my factory warranty intact and not deal with having to go back and forth between the dealer and Dinan after every service. No doubt the Dinan is better faster stronger etc... but warranty is warranty issues suck.

Yeah but you get a lot more ummph for the buck, asuming you are out of warranty I would have done the Dinan over the PPK.

Dinan would be the last tune I'd consider if already out of warranty.

The warranty matching is the major selling point. It is a conservative tune

I think a new DME is required for early 08s.

Your old DME is MDS80. The new one is MDS81. The newer DME has special anti tuner SW loaded onto it. Its harder to crack/tune - but most places know how to get around BMW's lockout.

I would keep your old DME... if you ever wanted to put a flash tune on it... it would be very easy. Most of the coding guys can do it. There is a boot-legged Alpina flash tune for these early DME's.

Thanks, I did ask for the old DME and they gave it to me, so it is now safely tucked away.

Thanks again,
