No more new Dashboards to fix airbag indentations
Heard that BMW will no longer replace the dashboards that have the airbag indentations. Anyone else hear this? I have it, but decided to live with it, but it looks like I have no choice now. Maybe they are focusing on fixing the windows that go down after you raise them!

They'd have to send a notice with a cut-off date so it can become an owner 'opt out' to not do it. Courts typically require 'fair, unifom and consistent' appication of remedies. |

An automotive manufacturer is required to supply replacement parts for vehicles for at least 5 years after production ceases. The dealer is BSing.

I understand that, and they will continue to make the Dashes, they just said that they will not replace them for the indentation. Anyone else heard anything from their dealer on it? No big deal to me, as I am not going to have it replaced. The look has frown on me, and my wife said it does not bother her and when she drives, she does not look at it.

i got my dash recently replaced less than a month ago. Whoever told you that doesnt know crap. I talked directly to the BMW rep at the dealer, and told me that they knew about the problem and that it occurs on the 1 series as well as the X3.

I use a sun visor in my front window year round, this will help prevent the plastic on the dash from getting the indentations. Try this to prevent the problem from getting worse

The sun isn't the problem, it's the heat cycles. The sun shade might reduce the heating by a little, but it's unlikely it's going to be enough to do any good.

Just noticed the same thing starting on my 1 month old MINI Cooper. I don't think it's caused by extreme heat/sun cuz we haven't had any hot weather since I took delivery of my MINI. |

Thats not the problem Jeremy, Its the fact that BMW does not honor their warranty. I have the same issue, and they pretty much say you will have to sue BMW NA to get it fixed.

I can't believe how BMW is treating customers with this latest generation of vehicles. It's unreal. It's like they're TRYING to get rid of loyal customers. |

It does make a difference too how involved the dealer wants to be. Varying dealer attitudes towards repairs can have an impact on how customers perceive the overall product as well. My local dealer changed owners, and they've been pretty aggressive in customer service as they try to build up their reputation. Still, if BMW corporate won't cover a replacement or authorize a repair, there isn't much the dealer can do. The tech that worked on my car told me that since the economy went bad BMW is affected as well. Over the past few months, he said, BMW even CUT how much time they will pay for to do certain work. He says that BMW paid more, by alloting more time, for repairs, and now they've cut back. He claims they only pay for 1/7th of an hour to do an oil change. That's only about 9 minutes. I find that hard to believe though. Sucks if true. |
