I've had a few false low oil level warnings and then 20 mins later it's back to full. I think this is related to issue 14 in the known issues thread. Apart from that all good.
I had this too when I bought mine. Its generally a time that the level is close to needing to be topped up. Scared the heck out of me first time.

I change the oil every 5000 kms now so haven't seen it in a while

Thanks schmick. I'm getting it checked at BMW just in case. I had a 130i previously and it never behaved like this.

Yeah I know I'm a dinosaur but I wish the 1M still had a dipstick!

Would wholeheartedly agree -- a solution to problem that did not exist.

Then again, the average BMW driver probably wouldn't be manually checking their oil anyway...

It's a little more concerning having a car payment AND a big repair. That is one of the advantages of new. You get the warranty and service during the bulk of the loan period, then once it's paid off a big repair is not so big a deal.

I think some BMW owners forget that sometimes : )

Like if someone asks a question about snow tires, some guy will say just go buy a new X5M with all season tires...duh.

: )
Although I bought 1M new and paid cash for it, I was still steered to the dealership's f&i guy, who tried to sell me a service contract (they are not, strictly speaking, extended "warranties"). He deployed all the usual scare tactics, i.e., the expensive-to-fix techno gizmos, etc. I asked him why in the world anyone in his right mind would want to buy coverage that duplicates the manufacturer's warranty for the first 48 months or 48,000 miles. He had no good answer.

Fast forward to today. My 1M is now out of the manufacturer's warranty, because it is four years down the road, but not 48,000 miles, only 37,000.

Out of idle curiosity, I checked the price for a service contract. I quickly concluded that I would be far better off either setting $5,000 aside for eventual future repairs or just not worrying about them. I chose the latter.

Of course, there will always be anecdotal evidence of someone's brother or cousin whose bacon was saved when his turbo-maflanger prematurely expired and his $5,000 service contract covered the $3,000 cost of repair. And then, there is that old saw: "What price piece of mind." Well, for some of us, it doesn't cost a cent.

I've been running the JB4 on mine since the day after break-in period.
I haven't removed the downpipes in a long time, so I have no idea how the turbos are looking, but performance-wise it seems all is well!
