DHL. Good, Bad, indifferent?
hi guys i havent been active for a while on here and i was just going to PM tay but it would seem he is not recieving PM's anymore..
as some of you may know i sold my 130 and actually bought a 1972 BMW 1602 (the 2002's 1.6L brother) anyway i am looking at buying some parts out of the states and rather than get screwed around like i did with my wheels i thought i might ask around first. are DHL ok to ship with to Aus or am i going to get stung with customs brokers bullshit? really between a rock and a hard place as this is the ONLY place i can get these parts, but i just wanna be informed this time..

not necessarily, I've had plenty of shipments under 1k but the freight company will add customs brokerage fees... not duty or GST, but charge you for their time in filling out customs paperwork etc.
DHL I remember being a little slow... I prefer UPS & Fedex and avoid DB Schenker at all costs for small shipments due to their high 'brokerage' fees. |

Hi Riley. Good luck with the build.
The dealer principal at Motorline has done a lot of builds of older BMWs, esp' E9s. He may be a source of info for you for shipping and where to obtain what you need. His name is Craig Rose. |

I have had great luck with USPS and FedEx, shipped to door, under $1K. No added fees and fast service.

I think I've shipped with almost all the major freight companies before and the only time I was charged brokerage fees for shipment under 1k was with DB Shenker, those guys are just dodgy. |

DHL, UPS and Fedex are all couriers, so there won't be any custom fees apart from tax and duties payable.
I have problem with UPS with my FMIC as it sits in Brisbane for a week before they send it to me because the shipment is not yet due!! We import things through DHL without issue with speed, but Fedex is almost always the fastest and most reliable.
