If you bought your car based on what people would think, you got the car for the wrong reasons. Just saying LOL. Get what YOU like

I guess the full disclosure would be saying that I had a BRZ at the same time as the 128i.
It has its good qualities, but it isn't anywhere near the overall package. |

The car is absolute beauty of a machine and I'm not the one to buy it for the logo. I'm never letting this car go. I don't think many people on this forum bought the car for the logo. It is an enthusiasts car and will soon be a classic. Talk to some of the 3-series guys and I'm sure they'll tell you of a lot of people that buy the car for the looks and some boost in ego or something.

I strongly considered the FRS/BRZ prior to buying my 128i. In fact, it wasn't until I thoroughly read every FRS article and test drove it a couple of times when I saw one article saying the closest competitor would be a 128i.
Thoughts regarding the FRS/BRZ: Pros 1. Great handling car. Very light and nimble and overall fun to drive. The sensation of speed (rather than actual speed) is remarkable since you're sitting just about a foot over the ground. 50 mph felt like 80. 2. Toyota reliability. I wouldn't be surprised if the overall long term cost of owning the car is somewhere in line with buying a Toyota Camry. 3. Beautiful style. Especially with the HIDs and DRLs of the BRZ (plus I like the BRZ spoiler). Add in some red tail light vinyl tint/wrap and it makes the car absolutely stunning. Example Cons: 1. Steering feel is okay. Nothing great 2. Engine sounds terrible. The intake piping of sound just is no thanks. 3. Lack of torque. Yeah the lightweight chassis and flat 4 with low cg makes a great handling experience....but I enjoy a wee bit of torque. 4. The interior. This was probably one of the biggest deal breakers. The rear seat is impossible, no space to seat any humans. The quality of materials used were blegh, and the lack of sound deadening for a everyday car just makes it something that'd drive me mad after awhile. 5. The handling. It's both a pro and con - the con is that the car rides a bit rough on uneven roads. 6. Boy racer. If I were 22 and in college, or even better yet 16 and in high school. But not for me today. |

My brother has one...it's a pretty cool car; the thing gets a LOT of attention....he did the same as I did for exhaust, basically nixed the back mufflers for straight thru; it sounds sweet...I just recently installed 6 piston Wilwoods on the front; they are fantastic looking and immediately up the cool factor times 3 at least....never raced him, but he's probably not too far behind...

What I don't understand about the BRZ is why they don't throw the turbo motor from the WRX into it. Seems like an easy way to make it very fast for the money.

stock auto with normal curb weight should slightly pull on an frs MT
if you emptied your car, and ejected the passenger, i'd assume you would win stock for stock

I was always hoping that the 1series would have been a fr-s, brz weighted car with a n52 or similar motor.

They are definitely lighter than BMW claims. Mine is ~3030lbs in a mostly stock configuration. If they had used the E60 philosophy and made our entire chassis from aluminum that would have been incredible.
