Service engine soon on dashboard

Hey Guys,

I have a service engine soon light that popped up on the dashboard after i had not closed the fuel cap correctly. I have confirmed this from Autozone and they asked me to tighten the cap and drive for a few miles so that the light will be reset.

I have done this several times and have even driven the car for more than 1000 miles but the issue still persists.

Any idea on how can i resolve this.

Thanks

Pull the actual code with a code reader that can read BMW specific codes.

Right now your question amounts to "I have a problem, can you tell me what it is?".

Wait...you have a BMW 128i and you go to AUTOZONE for information on what's wrong with your car? Try a dealership or an independent BMW shop. Most likely, the code needs to be cleared, which shouldn't take much effort, but it'd be worth making sure that's all that it is.

I think you are going to need to go in somewhere else to get the code read. Having the fuel cap open can cause a check engine light and is actually the number 1 cause of check engine lights. You may have been blown off by them where they just told you the easy answer. If that was the cause of the code it should have gone off after you screwed it down tight. I would suggest, as other have, that you need to go somewhere else to have the code read. It does not need to be the dealer if you are out of warrantee but I doubt that it is the fuel filler cap at this point.

Please....just stop.

Autozone can pull codes and reset for free. They simply just lend out the tool in the parking lot.

Instead of making half-ass sarcastic comments, you should realize this.

Have fun blowing money at a dealership to get a code cleared. It will be at least a hour of labor

Can also get an OBD and put an app on your phone and save the trip to AutoZone.
