time to take the car out of hibernation

With this mild winter, I think I'll be taking the car out of storage a lot sooner.
Previously, I waited until mid-March to take the 1'er out.

The rains this week should wash most of the salt off the road, just in time for the weekend!

Who else it thinking along the same lines?

I’m still waiting for winter to arrive so I’m a little concerned that March will be a bad month. I’m planning to bring my car out of storage the third week in March just to be safe.

I'm in the "florida" of Canada..Windsor...it's typcially milder down here than Toronto.

Just by my observation these past few weekends, a few other people (down here) have taken their rides out of hibernation. This is what got me thinking....

Chicago has had a super mild winter (pretty annoying if you actually enjoy winter like I do) but we are supposed to have mid 40's all this next week. My buddy with a Z4M already put his summer tires on lol...as it gets warmer and warmer, even if it does snow it melts a lot faster than during the "deep freeze" of Jan/early Feb. I'm excited for a new set of wider tires and to get off the snows I'm on now but a monster snow storm is always fun too.

Can't mount summer tires in Quebec legally until March 15th.

So if I did store mine, then it would only come out at that point, however I normally wait until the streets are completely cleared of salt/snow/roadside pebble before mounting summer set up. Hence end of March early April.

Legally?? How does that work? No summer/all seasons allowed during winter months? They actually check that?

Anyway to like 'prime' the fuel pump before starting a 135i after winter storage? I don't wanna blow mine up.

Taking delivery on my 2008 135i in the morning
Do you guys suggest putting on winter tires or is it not worth it since winter is done, and I should store it for the rest of the winter?

Anyone thinking of driving a high performance car in WINTER with summer tires should have their head examined. All it takes is one little patch of ice, or a rain storm that switches over to ice, or some loose salt or sand on the road or laying into the gas pedal too heavy - and off you go! This is how people total cars.

EVEN if you never drive in snow but drive when its cold outside(under 7' C) you NEED winter tires. Not summers and not all seasons. This is not just my opinion but also German law. And... proobably Canadian law as well. (?)

Yeah it is sketchy. Today whenever I tried to open the car up a bit, traction control would be intervening and the car would be twitching to the left and right. I guess I'll drive one of my parents cars when the weather is bad.

My 1'er is purely a toy. I have other vehicles for day to day.
Based on this week's weather forecast for my area, I will defer my decision next week.

Just seeing other people with their rides out thus far has made me itch for my 1'er.

I brought mine out today despite the wind and very light snow dusting. Because really, what will a bit of snow do? Nothing

Despite what another poster said, under 7° doesn't mean anything, once I hit the 401 today I gave it a bit more gas than normal and my traction control didn't go off or anything and no tires got spun at all. Loved the drive home so much compared to driving my civic.

ps: car is now back up for sale again.

I took my car out of storage last week for all the same reasons. I cant drive it legally until March 15, but at least I get to look at it, take it around the block every now and then when there is no snow on the roads... hopefully in two weeks Ill be able to drive it more often... I have 3k of mods waiting to be installed... lol and im getting impatient!

Winter is done, we'll have a couple more crappy icy days here in Ottawa but in 2 weeks its spring time. Was around 5 degrees yesterday so drove the car a bunch. This week the forecast is calling for +7 for a few days and next week is all +7.

Time to drive!
