I like my arrows and don't mind the false pings, they help keep me in check anyway

I use an Escort 8500xi. Exactly the same thing that kgaler posted, but without the gps feature. I see the appeal of it, but it's not something I'd ever need or use.

It's really great. My only complaint is that it's not loud enough if I'm driving with the windows open and the music a little loud.

Escort and Beltronics (same company now) also will give you an 80 dollar rebate on almost any new detector if you mail them your old one, any model, postage and packaging provided.

V1 with Laser Interceptor jammer. I have yet to install these in the 1er (still too cold here...), but have had great luck with these in the GT-R.
I have also started using an iPhone app called RadarActive. It acts as a "forum" for drivers in your local area to post where there are red light cameras, speed cameras, and recent speed traps. There is an accessory to hook it to a V1, but that involves $80 and a bunch of wires.

I have had a valentine 1 for 4 years now, and no ticket : ). A lot of people think radar = you can speed as much as you want, but no, you need to be smart when you speed. My rule in city is 10 over MAX. Cops here give tickets for 6 over(I haven't seen anyone here get a ticket for going 5 over). Therefore, I go max 50 in a 40, and that is if traffic is clean.

As for highway(which I drive 90%), my rule is 13 over. The speed limit is 70, so I rarely go above 83. I have seen people with radar detectors going 85+ past me, and then getting pulled over. Remember, you need to account for reaction time/braking time if need be : )!

safety first! Please do not SPEED when there are other drivers/traffic :|

V1 but i'm seriously considering adding a laser jammer. I've had the V1 for 8 years and only 1 speeding ticket.

I like the V1 but also have a 10 year old Uniden that cost about $100 that I have in my truck It works fine and has saved me many times but not quite as good as a V1.

There is a technique to using a radar detector. You just don’t slap it up and go. For example on a on a road without too much traffic you need someone in front of you so the cop hits them and your detector pick up the signal. I can usually find someone that is on my rear even if I am over the speed limit. I let these people pass, stay about ¼ mile behind them and they become the “canary in the coal mine”. Many times over the years I have seen the “Canary” get nailed by radar.

There are web sites devoted to radar detector reviews and discussion. When I was in the market for my V1 I used them and it helped make my decision.

I've got an escort redline, saved me last night as a matter of fact. +1 to the comments above about driving smart. The detector is just a tool that gives you a bit of extra info about your surroundings.

Escort Solo S2 here. Probably not the best, but it is cordless and I haven't been pulled over with it running yet. I think I bought it in 2005. I used the good electronics lithium batteries in it. These give me about 8-10 hours of straight power on drive time.

Anyone using the Passport iQ?

http://www.escortradar.com/iq/

Seems like a novel idea but not sure how effective it is...

have the same... 3 cars.. easy swap, no extra cords when in the GF's car with out the dedicated connection. ( i hate coil cords) works very well actually.. Its old, so Lidar technology is not what it is today.. I called escort and asked if softwear can get updated to new version.. they said no.. I would have to buy the new solo 2 that came out recently.

Its also alot smaller. It fits exactly in the space between the visor and the mirror while still being able to flip visor down. also tight up against the roof. a plus in my book ..

B.E.L. Vector 995 here...very reliable, great range, good features. Whatever you get, if it is equipped with a laser detector, be sure to mount your unit just below the tint band on your windshield (if you have one). That tint makes the laser detector useless.

Passport IQ is a great idea, but until the price gets under $300, it's waaaaaayyyy too expensive!

+1
My Vector is 6 yrs old so it doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it has paid for itself multiple times, the last just a few weeks ago. Bout the only thing I don't like about it is all the K band false signals from door openers I get. The only thing that would convince me to upgrade is the new GPS features where I could block those known false signals out.

In my state, using a radar detector without using a laser jammer too will get you a speeding ticket in no time.

I have Escort 9500i plus Laser Interceptor.

Also Escort Solo 2 - switching between two cars and a motorcycle as well as being easy to remove when traveling into the two nearby jurisdictions which do not allow them (DC & VA).

Ok I'm interested also. Is there any radar detector that can detect every type of radars and warns you that you are able to drop speed to speed limit or so...
Some of you said that you have detectors but still going not more than 15 mph over why???
