My point is that there seems to be a bit of a mentality on this forum from time to time that just because a tuner is German, they must have some variety of innate insight into tuning BMWs.

I'm simply weighing my options. From everything I've read and been told on this forum evolve is the way to go. Even those who have purchased the active autowerkes tune advise me to go with evolve. I just want to make sure I'm getting a quality product and good customer support. It's been a week since I sent an email to evolve and still no response.

How do you know no one has a tune for them?

Dyno of a German tuned 125i
Here is a dyno of a 125i tuned by individual car design in Stuttgart Germany. Biggest difference i see is it still shows the disa bumps. This is the graph he sent me to show the gains he can get from the 125i. He states that since my car has more compression and the disa swapped I should get more power and torque than what is shown, and the disa bumps will be less severe, unnoticeable.

Do you see any threads on here from people with a 128i and one of the tunes?

Pretty sure that is just blatantly wrong, calling their expertise seriously into question.

Correction I thought that car had a n51 engine and it doesn't. That was on a non disa n52 model. My apologies. I miss read his email. He said with the addition of the disa manifold I should make more power than the dyno he sent me. It was my mistake not his.
And if the 125i has the n52 why does the dyno show typical drops in torque and power that is characteristic of a disa manifold? Is it because the n52 is tuned for the disa but doesn't have it installed from the factory? I don't know much about bmw's. Help me understand.

Yes. I'm pretty sure 125i has DISA. I also wanted to clarify that it's not an N51 (i.e. not the same as 128i SULEV version). It's also not the same N52 that comes in 128i. It's yet another variant of the N52.

I'm just gonna go with evolve. I was simply trying to get opinions on all the options I have. I'm not trying to make anyone look bad, or question anyone's validity. I agree the local tuner I've been talking too seems alittle wishy washy on his knowledge. Evolve is proven, and AA buyers wish they got evolve. Seems pretty cut and dry.

That German dyno looks pretty good. Issues are the dips, I dont know how severe they are...graph analysis will not be helpful.
What I can say though is that all German dynos show a disa dip simirarily: GermanMS tunning - http://i764.photobucket.com/albums/x...g_diagramm.jpg The nice things is that those dips are Very short!! Shorter than 128i & Disa only. What I think the germans do is as follows: make the run up to the dip more aggresive thus fixing 128i & Disa by just a bit before the drop. They dont smooth it out, but the run up to the drop has more gain. Also 6.5k to 7k is fixed. I dont think his knowledge is washy he just doesnt know about n51 existence and how we need to be aware. Its just how germans tune. Only exception would be DS tuning, they are something else with TQ Go compare how AA smooths out & Evolve smooths out the dips . Even P-torque.co.uk fixes them the same way: https://scontent-a-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/...10091538_n.jpg. EDIT: AA currently has a good sale on, see e90post. Evolve may have one too see babybmw, same p-torque

I've never seen an n51 dyno, so i honestly have no idea . I don't have any dips anywhere in my RPM range with AA so if i had the chance to drive an n51 i could probably tell you.

Sent another email to evolve. Hopefully I'm still live when I get the response.
Never got a response from the first one....

All this is scaring me....I'm too busy with work and building the hot rod to mess with all the possible headaches getting the 3 stage working....I'm considering Turner's deal; it's all new parts with a reflash for $1650, plus he says if I buy headers from him down the road, he'll reflash for $150.....I'm also considering his very sweet 12 lb flywheel, only $650....
