4' catless dp and full berk race exhaust.

3rd day with this full exhaust: absolute superb exhaust tone, no fitment issues.

problem: drone badly especially at 2k rpm.

I really have to comment that this exhaust with the catless dp just sounded so angry and aggressive. I love the exhaust note everywhere throughout the rpm.
Video clips just cannot show how good the sound is.

The only drawback is the drone in the car with windows up. The drone causes even the plastic materials to vibrate.

Just to share with those getting this exhaust since volume is quite subjective:

-stock exhaust is just too quiet for me. Driving windows up. 1/10
-catless dp installed with stock exhaust is slightly loud. Windows up. 3/10
-catless dp with Berk full race exhaust is super LOUD. Windows up or down and pratically everywhere. LOL . 10/10

Will fitting a resonator resolve the issue? If yes, will it alter the exhaust tone? I really love the tone this exhaust makes. I dont care how loud it makes outside the car but NOT in the car where i cannot even enjoy some nice music...

Thanks.

Sorry bro, but you went into that with a warning about drone from Berk.

But any kind of muffler will drop the noise slightly, have you tried the berk muffler? Maybe theyll give you a discounted price as a repeat customer or as a return?

Berk does not recommend using their full race exhaust for the street which is why they have the full street exhaust instead which is just like the race but has a muffler on the axleback. The full street + 4" DP sounds amazing and aggressive as well so I would recommend just switching to that.

The CPE catback has a full muffler and stealth pipe to cut down drone. Good way to go if fully catless.

I guess a strange thing you could try is taking the rubber sound reducer off the stock muffler (assuming N55's have them like N54's do) and have a bracket made to mount it to your exhaust. And don't drive at 2k rpm's any more than you have to.

Thanks for the suggestions. I got the full exhaust simply because of all the reviews on the sound it makes.

Im using the stock rubber on the midpipe hanger instead of the one supplied by Berk. The workshop just mentioned that the supplied rubber is too soft. Maybe I will try to change it to see if the drone can be reduced....

I was not referring to the rubber hangers. There is a like a 4 inch round black rubber cylinder on the stock muffler on N54s. It weighs a few pounds. The MadDad muffler suggested you remove that stock vibration reducer and mount it to their muffler to help with vibration/drone.

Eyeman, thanks for the pic. I will try if there is one on the stock muffler.

Basically, i just have to remove it and where to mount it on the berk full race? there is no muffler on the berk.

I'd assume the muffler for N54's and N55's are the same so I bet you have this device. MadDad built a bracket on their muffler. You'd need to just get a muffler shop to build you one and weld it on your pipe, if you think it would help.

My MadDad muffler was one of the first they produced before they added the bracket. They were gonna send me a bracket for me to have welded on but they never did and I'm not sure if I would have mounted it anyways. My drone is tolerable. I would have liked to have tried it just to see if it would have helped though.

My vibration issues probably bother the most when idling. If I have the AC on I don't get the interior rattles but when it's off the rpm changes just enough for me to get rattles. Btw, my vibrations got a little better as my exhaust got some miles on it.

I used to run the full race setup, with the resonated mids and its still really droney, especially in the 2k range, you can really hear it when you get from 1800-2400. It sounds fantastic, but there is no way to get rid of the drone. If you get the jerk axle back with the muffler, you still get a beautiful sound, and your drone will be reduced dramatically, thats what I'm running and i love it.

Hey Eyeman, really thanks for sharing. I will get the workshop to analyse the drone and see what they can offer.

Lucca135, I believe you keep the berk midpipes and changes the axle back to the street version right? What is the reduction in volume from the race version to the street version from a scale of 1-10? Can you give an estimation?

I rate the full race with catless dp at 10/10. Catless dp with stock exhaust at 3/10.

I may consider ordering the street axleback. Thanks.

The race pipe is threaded to accept the dampener... I've used it with and without the dampener installed... MUCH better with it ON!!
Will, be wrapping it with header wrap too :-)

i'm about to try this myself, although not in the hope of reducing drone. i figure its more likely to help with minor vibration, i don't have much drone to get rid of since ditching dual midpipes. will try and use a bracket i can slide up and down the pipe and trial and error in different places. will start next to muffler and see.

midpipes will affect drone the most imo. resonated closer to the engine than stock location, install high flow cats, or a single midpipe will make the biggest difference. you need to change the harmonics of those two pipes.

I remember my berk street exhaust would drone a lot at first - causing a lot of vibration

Gave it a week or so and got used to it or broke it in.
