What's the difference
Can someone describe for me, what you get, or what's different, for your $2190 in Professional Nav, over what you get with Business Nav.
Same question on the $529 "Preparation for Bluetooth mobile Business" over "Preparation for Bluetooth mobile"? I'm sure they represent great value, but I'd be interested to know what the differences are. Cheers, |

In the 08 models, the Professional Nav comes with a second DVD drive, so you can use Nav at the same time as playing a CD. Because the nav is DVD based, the software also runs better than in Business Nav.
In the 09 models as I understand, the Prof comes with a harddrive, the resolution/screen is much better and hands down is the only way to go. |

09 business nav has a non-popup design as well... but the screen is seriously smaller.
Go do the configurator and check the interior shots - if I had to choose between business or no nav I'd take no nav as it stands

'08 Business Nav does have map and arrow directions. It doesn't have perspective view (birds eye view). Bus Nav also has basic voice commands for the phone only. It doesn't read the phone book names, or control the Nav (don't know if you can do that with Pro Nav), but you can command it to dial a number...if you know the number.... Bus Nav does have only the one drive, but since I have an iPod permanently in the car that is of no issue to me.
As I understand it "Preparation for Bluetooth mobile Business" adds phone book voice recognition.

The perspective mode is useless, in my opinion. I never use it, I stick to the "plan view with direction of traverl at top" mode. So, don't use that as a reason to upgrade. I also don't use the CD slot, I have an iPod permamently installed too. So, there goes that idea.
I do use the voice commands "Stop Guidance", "Start Guidance", "A to Z", etc though. I need to have a longer play with the voice recogntion though, as I can rarely get it to work properly.

As stated above, 09 business nav still has a fixed screen but it is a smaller screen with more plastic around it. It fits in the same binnacle as the pro nav.
And yes, in 09 pro nav you can control the navigation with voice commands. Here you still need to choose the voice command option but that might be different in Oz.

All the Australian 1 series cars arriving into dealers now have the fixed screen. The binnacle is the same size for the business and professional NAV's but the professional NAV screen is wider and fills the whole space. Both Business and Professional come with the new iDrive controller. It seems any car built from Sept onwards will have the new iDrive. I have seen the smaller screen in the large binnacle and it has a wide plastic border at each edge which makes the screen look too small. It doesn't look as good as the popup version. If you can I would suggest going for the professional idrive... or maybe none at all.

Agree completely with you. Perspective is a bit of a gimmick view. It doesn't have as much detail and difficult to see what's ahead. Direction of travel view is the way to go.

I wish you could split the screen and have Nav on one side and your playlist on the other side simultaneously.
