I agree with M135, I'd be trying to keep some fuel in the tank, if only to stop whatever crud that's in your tank from making it's way up to the engine/filter. Aside from that, with a 135i strapped underneath you, the urge for a spirited drive raises the issue of fuel surge...........bang!

The most I've ever filled my 135i is ~50L and it had only a few km range indicated. So considering the 53L tank capacity and my 10.8L/100km average, I'd estimate you could squeeze out another 25-30km once the range drops to zero (assuming there's no reserve in addition to the 53L). Possibly up to 35km with hyper-miling techniques. I never plan to test the theory, but you never know what sort of emergency you might find yourself in.

The fuel light comes on with 50km cruise range. That is a long way in my book (2 days of driving for me).

I have run all my cars to empty (most multiple times hehe) except for the 135i (will probably happen one day).
Its pretty damn exciting not knowing when it is going to stop / if you are going to make the next service station. I've got some good stories... |

I wouldn't be the first one to say that the 53 litre tank is a WASTE OF TIME in a big country like this!! I now have a pissy 63 litre tank in the M3 and it gets me less further than the 135i!!
A long range tank should be an option! We don't all live in countries you can drive across in one day! Rant over........ |

yeah, and maybe it could put some more weight towards the back.
isn't the 135 still slightly front heavy? (thats what ive read), so why didnt they include 1. a spare tyre 2. a friggin bigger fuel tank!

135i not yet. I remember running out at 2am in the middle of winter about 30 kms south of Yass many years ago. That was fun.
