The odd thing about this editorial in the Daily Telegraph is that there has been NO mention about this supposedly ///M 135 on any of the BMW forums....

Don't mind it being a 4 or a 6 - as long as it goes faster on track , with or without turbo, or some new way of doing things, it doesn't matter.

Garage List
2009 BMW 135i  [5.76]
Agreed, as long as it goes fast who cares what it has? Hell, if it had a 2cylinder hybrid that put out 300kw and 450nm why wouldn't you?

Surley if they can squeeze 300kW out of a 2L engine, then they could easily squeeze 300+ out of the N54.

Or better still - have 250kw squeeze out on a lighter car

Lighter car is only going to be possible if you are willing to forgo all the mod cons. With safety regulations, cars will be heavier and heavier, so unless you can forgo aircon, satnav, electric seats etc etc, it will be heavy. Me, I am happy with a M1 CSL with a smaller compressor aircon, light weight 1 piece race seat and nothing else (not even radio). Oh, carbon panels (roof in particular) would be nice!

Yes, but the turbo lag on those things means all that power is practically unavailable in real world driving conditions.

I guess that would be alright... may be a little underpowered, but it'd do.

Agree though with some of the posts above... the fact that we hear this first from the daily tele is somewhat dubious!

I wouldnt be interested. Dont care if they stick whatever M badge on it.
If I wanted a 4 banger, Id go with an evo or wrx and pocket the extra cash.
I have moved on from such cars. I want more refinement. A 6 cyl is usually more smoother and refined than a 4.
No way I am going to pay upto 100k for the privelige of driving a 4 cyl car.
In this price range Im expecting a couple more cylinders.

Will they make it quicker than an M3? In a straight line the difference is not that big between the M3 and 135. Round the track is another story. Could be mainly handling improvements and cosmetics similar to the M3?????

If they do make an M1, I reckon they'll make it as quick as the current M3 but the next generation M3 will be quicker than the M1.

I agree. I think the 6 would be a more refined approach.

We'll just have to wait and see and what they come up with. I don't think they will make a 4 cylinder that is going to feel the same as the jap cars. If they fail to have the refinement, then they are in trouble.

But as with most first bmws (with the exception of x5), their first attempt is usually a failure.

I would say the 135 is the re-incarnation of the e46 coupes .

And the 1er is really a redesign of the compacts. So, they don't count .
