Smile Introducing me and my 2009 Space Grey 125i Coupe

Hi everyone!

I’ve been watching this site for the last couple of months however life has been so busy that this is the first time I’ve had time to post.

I wanted to introduce myself and my new beast. Traded my 2004 Mazda 3 in for a 2009 125i Coupe five weeks ago yesterday and have been having an absolute blast driving her!

I’m too impatient and couldn’t wait for a new car built to specification so purchased a ‘demo’ from Kloster BMW in Newcastle which only had 100km on the clock. As you could imagine the drive up to collect her was the longest trip to Newcastle EVER! While the trip back to Sydney took no time at all

Specs: '09 BMW 125i Coupe | Auto | Space Grey Metallic | Black Leather | M Sport Kit | Sunroof | 18" Double Spoke 261 | iPod | Tint-A-Car Midnight Express Tint

1 Week old:

Taken this weekend, showing the tinted windows

Took her down to Jervis Bay over the long weekend and loved every KM travelled even though double demits were in force. Love the Kiama Bends She’s now officially broken in - ticked over 2000km on the way home.

My initial thoughts
  • Love the colour!
  • Love the growl of the engine! I laughed when I fired her up for the first time at the dealer and never get sick of it
  • Drives like a dream on smooth roads and around corners though bounces around a bit when the roads are rubbish (common in Australia). I guess that is the trade-off with the stiff suspension and run flat tires.
  • iPod integration better than my FM transmitter I used in the Mazda though frustrating trying to turn the dial thousands of times to find a name that starts with ‘S’ for example. Wishes it recognises track splits in Podcasts
  • Voice activation isn’t very accurate and I usually resort to using the number pad on screen or my phone.
  • Maybe I’m too fussy but has anyone else had problems with the window tint around the dots on the door windows? It’s been 2 weeks and it’s inconsistent with white areas around some dots and not around others.
  • Other than that. Love it! Still smile whenever I see the beast or whenever driving.

Greg

Very nice. Congrats. Am sure you can find some decent roads to drive it on. Blue Mountains etc. Enjoy!

Sprey, nice shot of Illawong Bay. Great bit of road for the 1er, although Tassie bendy roads are better

Tints dont really stick to the black dots on any car. Some people have actually painted that area black.

Thanks Tj303! The midnight express was great value for money last month with their $100 cash off - came to $275. To be honest I have never listed to the radio so can't say whether it interferes sorry.

Thanks Spacegrey. You've answered a question I've been struggling with the last couple days. I've ordered my car in space grey, but had never actually seen one in the 125i, so I was very close to changing to black sapphire metallic. However, after seeing the photos of your car I was blown away. I HAVE to get the space grey now. That looks H.A.W.T. hawt!!!

Now, the question remains - do I stick with the standard M Sports 17" wheels, or get the 261's?

Congrats! The shit-eating grin doesn't go away, so get ready for sore grin muscles.

The growl still gets to me a year later.

What's amazing about this car is that whether you're energized or tired, it rewards you.

Having used Midnight Express of another (one with the aerial in the rear windscreen glass), it doesn't affect your FM reception. However, it plays havoc if you're an AM listener (thankfully, I only listen to AM when the cricket is on, which is rare, as I'm usually plonked in front of the TV when the matches are on).

I ordered my space grey without even seeing pictures of one back in Nov 2008. Trust me, it looks even better in real life

What an upgrade from a Mazda 3! Did you have an SP23?

I think the steering on this thing will be heavier. My wife used to have a silver SP23 sedan.

It is way more luxury and more refine in a 125i me think.
