Tire wear survey

Curious as to what people are seeing for tire wear, especially to prove/disprove the hypothesis that the add'l torque in the 135i causes extreme amount of tire wear compared to the 128i..

Car: 2008 128I 6MT, Tire sizes- 205/50-17 on all corners.
History: Purchased car with 35K miles shod with Nitto NT05s. No idea when they were put on the car. NT05s replaced at 112,250 -- so they lasted at least 77K miles.

Second set of tires: Nitto Motivos
Car now has 145,000 miles
90% of mileage on interstates
Tire pressures: 34F, 37R
Tire rotation every 7,500 miles - despite what manual recommends.
Have aligned the car only one time, 17 months ago.

I am at 32,000 km and have purchased 4 sets of tires on my 135. I would say it is hard on tires.

Why do we even need to prove this? An additional 100 lb.ft (+++) is going to wear out the rear tires a LOT faster,.

It has more to do with driver habits and driving style, a driver babying a 135i will have their tires last longer than someone doing donuts in a 128i. Comparison like this has too many variables for it to be meaningful.

I've gone through two sets of rears in one year on the 135i. I've been babying it lately with cold weather setting in.

All about the driver and tires. Some tires have better tread life than others just like some drivers have lead foot syndrome compared to others.

The faster my rear tires wear out the better. Means I am having more fun.

This is like comparing who's wine cellar lasts the longest.

I have about a 3 to 1 ratio in regards to replacement of my rears to fronts. Amusingly I use the TPMS error light on my snows to remind myself to behave. - snow tires don't seem to grip as well as my summers .

Also we can't rotate our tires on the 135i... (I'm assuming they all have different size rears-to-fronts, like mine?)...

I replaced rears after 4 Maybe 5 months on last 2 rear set of tires. Had to replace all 4 after 4 months on the set before that. Tires on the car took 4 to 5 months this summer and look like they'll last the 4-5 next summer. So the fronts will get replaced next summer after 8-10 months. Switched to cheap tires since I was burning them up. The $90 tires I have now are serving incredibly well for the money. I have horrible driving habits. Haha. I'm pretty sure the 430 wheel tq doesn't help either with a lead foot.

I got about 10000 miles out of the Continental Extreme Contact DWs in the rear. The fronts are OK on wear but are getting loud. Switching to a cheaper tire that's stickier next spring when I get the car back out. The car is at 445 wtq right now.

I've never gotten more than 6-8k out of rear tires on anything i've owned.. I may drive a bit aggressive. At least the 1 doesn't have an LSD, then it'd be a whole lot worse
