Porterfield R4-S brake pads

Does anyone have any experience with these?

From statplaya06 on e90post:

I did an upgrade to my brakes with:
-Motul 600 fluid
-Porterfield R4-S pads F/R
-ECS Stainless lines
-Z4 35is front rotors (still stock 335 in the rear)

Made a real difference in braking confidence and fade resistance without costing too much money. I highly recommend this setup as a "poor man's brake upgrade" kit. There are no obnoxious noises and the pedal feel is great.

I've heard mixed reviews of the R4-S's.

R4S's aren't track pads so if they are put to track use and the driver didn't manage the brakes well the results may disappoint. However, they are excellent street pads/autox pads.

Yeah, totally true. I would consider them better than stock, but may be a let down even for light HPDE use. I guess you could get away with it by a cool down lap or two every few hot laps if you wanted to use them as a dual purpose pad.

Thanks for the info, I think I am going to choose some different pads since Nurburgring is 12.9 miles per lap and I don't feel like spending money on something that is going to run the possibility of fading halfway through a lap. I'm and looking at Ferodo and EBC's Yellow stuff. I know the Yellow stuff pads produce a descent amount of brake dust but thats not something I am concerned about since I wash my car on a very regular basis.

Ferodo DS2500's may be a better pad for you.
