I was also facing the problem of whether to do the y pipe or not on my 135i. I first had them install the PE catback and nothing else. When it got started up i was expecting real change, and i was very disappointed. You could barely tell a difference between stock other than maybe golf tee and the sound a little better. I took it back and had them cut off the resonator and weld on the y pipe. Wow, it was so much better, worth the 1k or so. As for drone, sometimes at like 50 mph you can hear it a little bit more, but overall i've kinda gotten used to it and don't notice anymore. So yes, drone not really, but if you are going to do it, go all the way and install both parts otherwise it isn't loud enough.

Thanks. Ya, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna delete the resonators. Now I just have to decide whether to do it myself (which I'd prefer) or intrust my dealer to do it...

I had this setup: stock downpipes to res delete to stock 135i muffler with the golf tee Sounded good but then i heard a PE exhaust and i was hooked. The PE is just louder, more aggressive rumbling, burbles more and the top exotic sound cannot be reproduced |

Now that hurts ....because I do have an angle grinder and thought the damned chain tool would be easier. I ended up finishing it off with cut-off bits in my makita but why I didn't open up my air tools is a mystery. Live and learn......

Install the complete performance exhaust; you won't be sorry. Best sounding exhaust for the 1 series, period.

I added the PE first. There may have been some popping and crackling, but very little IIRC. It was back in 2011 so not exactly sure how little. Just remember I was really impressed when a few months later I added the PPK because that's when all the popping and crackling came, plus you get 20 hp, which is it's real purpose. Great sound. Well worth it IMO.
