My 128i Project **Scan Tool and Powerbox**
Intake
Here is the deal so far: We did a baseline pull with 0W-30 synthetic aims oil and got around 210whp (Which is very good for a 230whp rated engine). Next Installed the injen intake that bumped me up to ~218whp (on avg), the sound improved and we got some extra torques (6lbft to be exact). Here is the before and after video and dyno: http://www.dynamotorsports.ca/dynogr...iInjenDyno.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yi9K9Hahy0&NR=1 Exhaust After the intake we did the exhaust. The muffler has weird dimensions so instead of trying to fit an aftermarket one we decided to go with the stock 135i muffler. We merged the 2 2.5" exhaust tips into 1 single 3: exhaust just before the first bend. We also decided to go with a 2 piece exhaust consisting of an axle back and a mid section, unlike the stock 1 piece exhaust. The numbers went up to 223whp and the torque jumped up to 214lbft. Here is the dyno graph and the video of the intake and exhaust: http://www.dynamotorsports.ca/dynogr...xh128iDyno.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVH9MFWlSTw Here is site of the amazing brothers from dynamotorsports, I have been going to them for over 5 years and they always manage to do a quality job. http://www.dynamotorsports.ca/ 135i bumper Installed a 135i bumper on the car this month... Installation was pretty straight forward. Although 3 of screws at the bottom of the bumper did not align. Other than that everything was a straight bolt on. Power Box Below are the Dyno chart and a link to the youtube video of my power box dyno. Graph: http://i524.photobucket.com/albums/c...01/dynoPBX.jpg Video: Dyno run: 0W30 oil/94 octane/injen intake/DMT 3” exhaust/BSM Power box From what it looks likes the power box did jack shit except burn more fuel. I can see (by using the scan tool) they advanced the ignition timing by a few degrees and dumped a more fuel. However as power goes the dyno proved that there are no gains to be had even with all my supporting modification. Also if you’re wondering if I gave it enough time to “adapt”; I installed a few days before going on the dyno. And if you’re wondering why it is less power now than it was before, well its most likely due to some factor like oxygen levels in the air, its not uncommon. Is the intake vibration around 3-4-5k rpm mark is normal ? It seems like high or low rpms it looks solid.

Its nice, I wouldn't say its beautiful... it starts to flat line around 6.1k. Ideally you would like to see it keep going up instead of flat lining.

Wow, thanks, nice pics & vids.
I hope there's a similar intake for 125i. They really lack power above 4000 rpm, it's really frustrating. Evenmore as there's nothing after 6000. My former 325ti E46 was way more demonstrative in the upper range despite 26HP less. I think I'll install such a thing, it'll help me to wait for the ECU 130i remap |

I didn't see any dyno's on the 128i so I figured i through it up for you guys. I also included some pictures of the custom exhuast from dynamotorsports. Last edited by pushkin; 01-18-2010 at 07:21 AM.. |

My point is that it's relatively flat and thus predictable. Ever driven a car that has a really choppy curve or a much higher peak than the average? Not even close to the same thing. Either way I'm with you, it'd be nice to have a bit more constant power delivery in the higher end. I'm just happy with what I got for my money |

Car sounds GREAT! I have been meaning to give tony a call to see if he can muster up some magic for my car...maybe after winter.
Ditto on DMT's work, they are fantastic. The intake+exhaust really added a nice grunt to your car man! |

These pulls are done at 6th gear right? I wouldn't think you can go up in speed any lower gear but, I am really not knowledgible about dynos.

No, dyno pulls in manual trans cars are done in 4th or 5th. Which ever gear is 1 to 1.
One of the reasons that you don't want to use the top gear is that you want to be able to run the entire rpm range. In the highest gears you may hit the speed limiter before you get to the red line or the car may just run out power to spin the rollers and never reach red line that way. Using 1 to 1 also allows runs to be more comparable to other cars. Also most of the dyno guys I know prefer not to spin the dyno's drums faster that 130 mph due to safety and wear and tear on the equipment. Automatic trans are trickier because you can't completely control them and when they may kick down a gear when you press on the throttle.

After the headers there is not a single O2 sensor or anything, so you don't need to worry about codes

I do a lot of highway driving and if I deleted the muffler it would be unbearable for me to live with it everyday. Plus leaving the muffler gives the exhuast a cleaner sound. Oh and just as a after though we didn't actually leave the axe back. we cut off the 2.5" axe back pipe and made it into a 3" right up to the muffler.
