Found a great way to use the "spare tire" compartment!

You know how it is... when you get a new car, you just want to keep the new car smell in as long as you want. But the thing is, with a new car, you want to ride around town in style, splurge on some good food and such. Inevitably, you always end up with doggybags for leftovers.

The first time I had leftovers from a Singapore Asian food joint (Banana leaf, farmers' market at the Grove, LA ) Boy the food smelled great. But potent! Then it dawned on me that I could chuck the thing in the "spare tire" compartment. Took 40 minutes to drive home. Got back, popped the trunk, took the food out. You can definitely smell the aroma escaping, but once you put down the cover to the compartment, the smell is sealed in! So no more stinky car interior due to food smells.

Now my interest is peaked. What else can I chuck in there. So a couple of days later, my wife & I went to Macaroni Bar & Grill, ordered up some delicious italian food. Same thing, we ended up with leftovers. No worries! Pop it into the compartment again and drove home. And again, not a hint of the smell inside the car.

Long story short, I tried this with all sorts of food and it worked like a charm all the time. My car still smells just as new as the first day I got it. The compartment however, now smells like a food bazaar, with all sorts of food smells melding together. Once in a while, I will air it out. No biggie.

I don't know about you, but this is the BEST FEATURE EVER!!! For a food lover like me, at least.

Maybe we can put some beers and ice in there?

Haha, I'm sure I am not the 1st person to think of it, just the 1st person who bothers to post the idea.

I am sure it could be done. The box is lined with water-proof plastic material, and looks sturdy enough. It seems to be removable too, so you can pour away the excess water when the ice melts. So when's the next tailgate party!!

Thanks! That really is a good idea. Not as obvious as one might think.

Hahah my salesman told me the same thing. He said your 22 right? And i said yes. He said i have a great little compartment for you. He showed me the spare tire space, and he said.. whenever u have a few beers in the car and are worried of getting pulled over. Just put them in here..

Haha- too bad i dont really drink (big lightweight 5'3 100lbs LOL).. But nonetheless what a crazy selling motif..

Great idea! I also found it's a great place to put your plastic gas can when getting gas for the mower (when you have to use the E90 to fetch gas). Keeps it from being able to fall over, slide, or spill.

Thanks Spaceman...that's a great tip.....one of my big pet peeves is the stinky car smell.....seems that the better the food the worse the smell too (like seafood linguine).

Another benefit of the 3 over the 5/6/7 series....money leftover to eat out.

That's an excellent idea. I'll have to keep that in mind when I take delivery of my 330 next month.

And the trunk will hold 2 bodies. Seems like the new 3 is perfect for the New Jersey market.

This is great as long as you don't forget your food in there, and leave it in the trunk for like 3 weeks

That's why we get a compartment there because there's no spare tire. BMW engineers figured why waste the space!
