Golf GTI launch day at Calder Park tomorrow

I know we love our Beemers, but I entered a competition to go to the Golf GTI launch day at Calder Park Raceway tomorrow. Did anyone else secure a place?

Not sure how they picked the winners, perhaps it was based on what vehicle you drive now, as that was one of the questions. Should be a good day.

Sounds like fun. I read that they've got a speaker behind the front seats to emulate the exhaust sound, as the chassis was too refined/damped, and you couldn't hear the note..

The also put in one of these cause the turbo was so small you couldn't hear it either.

Cozza, can't believe you didn't see my 135i in the carpark! I haven't driven my car for 6 months so am using it a bit before Sat to familiarise myself with it again. I saw your car when we were finishing off (I was in the 8am session). XDL is pretty cool, works much better than the E-diff in the 135i. I drove it in sports mode and it even allows some rear wheel slip and working in combination with the XDL, it was pretty good! This thing really is the best of FWD cars I would say. On the track, it was a bit soft, and brakes were a bit long after half a lap lol. But I drove it hard, I was lucky enough to have a pro driver in there who knows me and my driving so he was happy for me to go all out, tyre squilling, late braking all the way lol. This car is great value for money just like the Mk5, but this one is better again. I think I may put an order for one for my wife to use around town...

Hey Way, I had no idea you were there - didn't see your car, or any other 1ers for that matter. XDL is fantastic, I was really impressed by the Golf. Definitely great value for money, so long as you don't fall for all the add-ons. I too drove it pretty hard, those brake markers were at least 20 meters early! I had a great time on the track, but would love to get my 125 out there for a few laps!

Not sure I could afford the upkeep of a track car mate.

Cozza, just do a Driver Dynamic track day once in awhile. If you are sensible, it won't cost the earth.

nice to read your reports, I was considering downsizing to the new GTI if things got worse economically and carrying the 135i became a burden.

I like the car, but I'll hang on to my 135i tooth and nail!
