I surprisingly got a quote from my dealer for $545...is that a shocker?

Bavarian Performance Group quoted me somewhere around $950...which without hesitation matched my dealer quote upon me telling them they would do it for $545...

What does this cost???

It costs a intake manifold gasket and your time if you want to clean em yourself, you can scrape all that stuff out manually and you will have a really intimate relationship with the car when you're done. You can also buy a blaster at harbor freight for pretty cheap.

Basically, it costs around what you were quoted if you want a shop to do it. I've heard of some specials out there for like a couple hundred but those are rare and / or combined with some other service.

I've been thinking about this lately too, but will probably wait for speing when I put the summer shoes back on.

If you do this, please post details (experience, where you got it done, cost, results). I'm curious because it is generally accepted that this is more necessary (or needed more frequently) on N54 than N55, so I am curious to see how bad it looks in there compared to the pics I've seen of N54's before.

I saw a 2014 335 last week (n55 with just over 50k miles)...the valves were spotless.

I think the recommendation is 100k miles on the n55...vs every 40k on the n54.

my car threw SES and engine malfunction the other night with reduced power, sputtering, stuttering acceleration response....getting the walnut blasting done tomorrow, i got 3 opinions on it from different shops, all 3 were that it needs to be done. indy guys and bmw guys.

i run quite rich as is because i have catless setup, bunch of bolt ons and dinan stage 2 tune. so A/F ratio isnt exactly what it should be, need custom tune but thats a whole other thing.

im bringing it in tomorrow to be done at BMW dealer. I have a connection with SA there who hooks it up. Im gonna try to get him down from $580.

Im also asking that they do not perform the service unless it is necessary, requesting i be sent a picture of the intake valves before they do the blasting. if it is clean, ill know its something else.

car has 36,100 miles on it, exhaust tips have a lot of carbon build up, VANOS was replaced 3 months ago, battery just replaced too.

$$$$$$$$

Haven't had time yet

Funny because the symptoms were very prominent a few weeks ago, but then I had my battery replaced and I don't really have any of the stuttering acceleration issues anymore

Cars going in tomorrow I'll update asap

So, since I've had a new battery in the car, the symptoms are no longer there...can anyone explain why this would happen? I can't really justify paying for walnut blasting if the car shows no symptoms with a new battery...personally I'm stumped

FINALLY got a code to show up and STAY UP on the car...looks like its a Cyl. 2 misfire, occurred 2 times.

The car usually goes into limp mode when I go WOT, right around 5K RPMS in 3rd, 4th or 5th gear, aka heavy load being produced by the turbos. But in the past, the SES light has cleared itself within 10-15 minutes. Stopping the engine and starting it again would also clear the code, since the car is running 3 cylinders, this was necessary a few times. Upon start up it would be gone from the dash, and would not show on a scanner....

Instead of paying $$$$ for walnut blasting, I am replacing the ignition coil on cylinder 2, as well as all 6 spark plugs (got a great deal for a OE set of 6 from e.c.s.t.u.n.i.n.g)

Will report back after these puppies go into their new homes and see if my problems are a thing of the past....

Sounds very similar to an issue I had. I replaced the spark plugs and it went away so I think you should be good after replacing those.

Low voltage causes many odd problems in modern cars. If a battery is at all suspect/old it should be replaced. Not low cost now that the battery needs to be registered, but worth it if it needs to be done.

Spark plug on cylinder 2 was cracked. Code that read out never gave details but I had my SA replace all 6 sparks and the coil on cyl 2 and he called me to say ceramic was cracked. Problems gone
